Producer of the week and this one has quite a backstory. 🍷
Meet Hancock & Hancock — a McLaren Vale label started in 2015 by two brothers, Chris and John, from their La Colline vineyard in South Australia. The vines are old — some of them over 80 years — planted on south-east facing slopes with three distinct soil types running from the top to the bottom of the hill.
Chris Hancock is something of an Australian w**e legend. He trained under Max Schubert at Penfolds and worked on early vintages of Grange. He went on to spend decades at Robert Oatley Vineyards. Hancock & Hancock is his homecoming — back in McLaren Vale, back on his own land, making w**e the way he always wanted to.
The Shiraz Grenache is exactly what you'd hope for from this part of the world. Ripe dark plum, pepper and spice from the Shiraz, lifted by rose petal and red cherry from the Grenache. Restrained, supple and with a lovely bright finish that keeps you coming back.
Now available by the glass at the bar and by the bottle in the shop. The perfect autumn red — come and try it. 🍂
