C A K E L E G E N D
Our Dear Karen the KA in the Kazoo, the inspiration behind Kazoo Cakes, without you, your knowledge, your patience and your kindness we wouldn't be where we are now, The Shires Pantry would have never been created either!!
If you are reading this post (please read until the end) it's with the saddest news that Karen passed away on December 20th. Still cannot believe that we will not see your smile or hear your wicked laugh again.
Karen and I met at a Wedding, where I complimented her cake making skills. After a short chat at this wedding she invited me to hers where she would teach me new skills. I never thought I would be a cake maker, but after many coffees and cake demos, Karen, myself and my mum found ourselves learning at cake school how to stack a cake and how to make sugar flowers.
We embarked on an adventure altogether, which lead us into 2am finishes whilst we still worked normal jobs, sometimes creating 8 or 9 cakes a week, but endless laughs, coffees, cheese on toast and god knows how many kg of icing, cake and buttercream!!
Swipe to see some of first cakes we created for customers, each cake has a story, whether its turning the inside of mums house red spray painting Lightening McQueen, or Karen's amazing ability to model meat and two veg for our Full Monty cakes!!
Karen made beautiful sugar flowers, she really had the skill for this. The stargazer lily was just one of her many floral creations.
Recently, my niece has shown a creative talent for baking and cake making. Karen also saw this in her too, or as Karen called her "Lashes" without everything she taught me, I wouldn't be able to teach you, which just shows what a Legend she was.
To honour the memory of our dear friend Karen, we want to raise money to place a bench on a place that Karen loved to visit.
We are launching this weekend a special treatbox, which will be delivered the first week in February. All monies will go towards a memorial bench for Karen.
We will always remember those moments baking with you forever, Karen, and I hope I can pass onto many others the same as you passed onto me.
