I have A LOT of pears on my tree this year so I'm going to be digging out my favourite pear recipes. Sadly most only need one pear but, hey, that's one less pear going to waste (or feeding the fruit flies whilst I dilly-dally over what to make next). Yesterday, i made fig rolls and two pear tarts. What's your favourite recipe that uses pears?

Been busy making batches of Wilson's Original Tomato Jam for Wilson's Street Food recently. This is exclusively available at Wilson's Deli and they use it in their breakfast baps. Fortunately, we get to eat the 'not quite a jar full' here too and today Grant has been enjoying it in a roll with roast pork. I also added it to the spicy nuts I was making rather than honey and that turned out to be an inspired decision

I accidentally purchased jam sugar as an ongoing subscription instead of a one-time buy, but on reflection, it's probably not a bad idea!

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't manage to harvest the last of the August apples before the overnight storms... but I shouldn't have worried because there were no overnight storms so I made the most of yet more sunshine and went out to pick them.

I'm a big fan of nature but not so much when it comes into my house. The grasshopper thinking it was a clothes peg wasn't a big deal, nor the one that's been living on my bathroom ceiling all week, and I actually appreciate the spiders that keep the flies down. I wasn't overly pleased about the blue tit in the greenhouse despite the net curtain across the door but I was more concerned about its stress than mine. But I really did not enjoy the bird down the flue of my wood burning stove last night.

An hour and a half of flapping noises whilst I hoped it would find its own way out and I Googled to see if there was anything I could do to help. Then quiet and I hoped it had got out... only to find it behind the glass window of the stove this morning - a very sooty great tit! So I had to be brave, open the back door and close the internal one then open the stove door and retreat! Fortunately, it hopped out, took a moment to consider its life choices, shook the soot out of its feathers and flew out of the door.

My allotment friend James went on holiday just when his tomatoes were ready. The weight of these big boys pulled down the plant supports too! He asked if I would put them through my squishing machine, which is hand cranked so quite a sweaty job in 36°C heat, but he now has 9 pints of passata to freeze to enjoy his tomato crop into the winter. BTW, there are plenty of green ones still on the plants so I don't think we are done yet!

I added a teaspoon to the photo for a sense of scale.
