Our Story

Hi, the Heady Herd is a family farm situated between the Buckinghamshire villages of Newton Longville and Drayton Parslow, producing beef and lamb which we sell in meat boxes.

We have a small herd of sheep and cattle, which are born and raised on our family farm. We raise our animals in a low stress, high welfare environment, keeping the production process as natural as possible. Our sheep will be out on fresh grass all year round, with the lambs being fed on grass and milk alone (from their mothers), and left to naturally mature, giving both fantastic welfare and flavour. The cows will be out grazing the fields all spring and summer, but will head into the sheds in the late autumn to avoid the worst of the weather. During the winter months they are fed silage (fermented grass), and housed on straw, (both made on our farm) before heading back out to the fields in the spring once they have had their new calves.

For a number of years our produce entered the usual supply chain, ending up in M&S and other supermarkets, but we knew we had a fantastic product both in taste and provenance. So we started supplying local butchers and friends with meat boxes. Word slowly spread and our order numbers crept up year on year, until we arrived at the position we are at now, where hopefully this year we will be able to sell all of our lamb locally. It is such a pleasure to see the production process through end to end, so that we know every care has been taken in the welfare of our livestock. From day one when they are born here on the farm, to the day I load them up and take them on the short (30min) final journey.

So if you like your meat local, ethically farmed with care and attention, and naturally reared on grass and milk alone, please get in-touch and we will do our best to supply you.
