From September Horner Farm and Good Vibe Veg are offering a supported internship here on the farm starting from September 2026.

Today some of our cattle have headed out onto the Holnicote estate to introduce grazing at the Aller river restoration site.

By introducing cattle to the site this should bring a positive ecological impact across the site through grazing, trampling and the benefits of dung.

The cattle are also utilising .international collars to aid our daily checks with ease of finding the cattle over a large area and to ensure grazing can be targeted appropriately.

The site hasn't been grazed for three years so they certainly won't be short of food any time soon.

They immediately entered the site and started browsing on the trees, tall grasses and herbs.

It's a very different style of grazing to what we usually do but it's really exciting to test and trail and adapt as the site continues to develop over the summer months.

The Big Nature Day will be the concluding event of the Exmoor Nature Festival, a two-week programme organised by the Exmoor National Park Authority starting on Saturday 16th May. The festival will celebrate wildlife and well-being in the National Park with lots of fantastic events on offer - visit Exmoor National Park to find out more!

RSPB Bird Survey

We welcomed a local RSPB volunteer onto the farm at the weekend who is conducting a bird survey of the farm for us.

It's really important we gather data to measure success for the farm, and a key measure of success for us as a farm is if we have thriving wildlife populations.

We were incredibly pleased to find we had 33 different species of birds recorded, including 8 Amber listed and 5 Red listed species

Farmland bird populations have decreased by 60% since 1970, and between 2019 and 2024, the indicator which tracks England’s farmland bird populations saw the largest decline at 13%.

As farmers we know we can bring about positive change for bird populations and to do this while building a resilient farm business we think this is great news.

We had our first calf of the year born last night.

Raspberry had a lovely little heifer calf who will join the Goldfinch herd, it is always great seeing the family lines grow and who will be our future herd members.

Spring with all its seasons with us today as moments of beautiful sunshine were laced with icy wind and hail.

Our Goats are happy to be back out doing what they do best running riot and being our organic w**d control.

It feels odd to now have a tiny goat herd on the farm but just as with the passage of the seasons, with the passage of time the farms needs have changed.

We have just started Lambing our flock, with our cows to follow in a week or two, Spring often feels Iike the new year for us on the farm with the cycle beginning all over again.
