We were really surprised when lots of people said they had seen us on countryfile recently. It turns out they replayed part of the episode in which we featured.

So here we are fresher faced in 2020, with little Moss age 1 and Fergus age 3 who at the time was recovering from a broken leg so had to be carried everywhere, of course he was his usual confident self at 3 years old.

And it featured not only our farm but the absolutely great women in farming group.

This Summer -

We have been warned continually that we will continue to get unpredictable weather patterns, increased risk of drought, increased risk of wildfires and of course new virus's such as blue tongue in our livestock as conditions change.
The results of this summer are not only costly but the stress and anxiety element has been huge as farmers.

Despite how tough it currently is and there have been many moments where we question if it is worth it, we have to try to continue to motivate ourselves to keep making changes on the farm, there has always been a plan and despite how hard and challenging it is right now, we keep thinking about the future plans to give us some positivity, to overcome each challenge.

For us that continues to be building resilience to these unpredictable changes by -

Storing moisture in our soil by building organic matter and overall soil health
Trees to provide shade and shelter for animals and soil which in turn helps grow grass better.
Recognising that we can't take the seasons for granted anymore, we have to plan for the unknown, its not as simple as four seasons anymore.
Being adaptive with our grazing - animal welfare always comes first and protecting our pasture for future growth.
Slowing the flow measures on the farm to help keep water here.
And in the case of this summer valuing vaccinations for our animals
Planning that hay may need to be fed in the Summer not just the Winter.

Although if it could rain the animals and us would be extremely grateful!

As you know we believe that working collaboratively is the way forward for getting great produce to our local community, currently you can buy from us directly, at our producers markets and from Ruxstons in Wellington but wouldn't it also be great if a shop in Minehead might also stock some of our produce?!
