Dates - 6–7 & 13–14 December 2025, 11am & 2pm (Sat) / 1pm & 3pm (Sun)

Mari Lwyd, meaning 'Grey Mare', involves the horse- figure being carried from door to door by wassail- singing groups between Christmas Day and Twelfth Night. At each house they stop to request entry through a series of rude rhymes, or 'pwnco', that are exchanged with the person who lives there.

to now, walking away after the floods.

We’re still closed. No clear reopening date.
And we’re tired.

But I know this much: Pause & Paws isn’t over.
It’s just… paused.

We’ve been working in the background to try and figure out ways we can come back in the interim and how we can start from nothing with no insurance. We will be posting soon about all the new ideas and changes. We’re gently changing to online for the time being so please follow us and share with friends to join our story. I visited Cardiff lights a couple of years ago and it looked so lovely in the evening and drew a lot of visitors…. I wonder if Monmouth could do something similar one Christmas?

Please be vigilant — heavy rain is forecast across South Wales, and with our rivers already swollen and ground saturated, flooding is likely from tonight into Monday.

🐾 The shop’s shut… but we’re still here.

Nearly two weeks since the flood — and we still don’t know when we can reopen.
Our stock and equipment are gone, and the little shop is on pause.

But Pause & Paws isn’t just a place — it’s for you. So while we wait, we’re gently building online.

To tree or not to tree? 🌲
Things are going to be challenging this Christmas given the flood. Every thing is in limbo. I’m gently moving us online to help stay positive thank you to everyone who is supporting us by following. Should we put our tree up a little early to cheer the house up a bit? 🎄 🎄
