☀️What a fantastic day at our LPARC Fun Day👮🏽

It was a busy, sunny day at Strathclyde Park and fantastic to see so many families and members of the public enjoying everything on offer.

We'd like to thank all of our partners, organisations, emergency services, exhibitors and volunteers who gave up their time to attend, provide displays, activities and advice. Your support and partnership are what make events like this possible, and we appreciate your commitment to keeping our rural communities safe.

And a huge thank you to everyone who came along to meet us, speak with our partners and enjoy the day. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Well, why not come along to our Lanarkshire Partnership Against Rural Crime ( LPARC) Fun Day and see what all the fuss is about!
There will be something for all ages including:
Tractors from Bryson , Police Horses (can be redirect at short notice), Police vehicles, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Seed Exchange, Bike Marking( bring bikes), Family Activities and much more.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to snap some amazing photos, create lasting memories with the kids and meet some of the organisations working hard to keep our communities safe.

There is no parking within carpark 1 during the event and no designated parking for the event however there is various carparks throughout Strathclyde Park that can be used.

The National Farmers Union (NFU) joined Road Policing Officer in Motherwell to share expertise on tackling rural crime and improving safety for agricultural vehicles and drivers.

Our local officers have been in and around the Clydesdale area this week, in response to the antisocial and illegal use of quad bikes & off road motorcycles.

USE OF QUAD BIKES & OTHER OFF ROAD MOTOR VEHICLES

The law is clear - the only places where off road vehicles can lawfully be ridden is on private land with the direct permission of the land owner or at an organised, supervised off road centre.

We are regularly asked about the law surrounding the use of quad bikes & off road motorcycles & are today posting the answers to the questions we are most frequently asked.

CAN I RIDE ON WASTELAND?

The simple answer is no. There is a common misconception that public land or wasteland is free for anybody to do whatever they like – this is not the case.

WHAT ABOUT OUR PARKS AND PLAYING FIELDS?

The Local Authority owns most recreational areas including parks and nature areas and it is unlikely that they would give permission for use of motor vehicles in these areas. Remember you need the direct permission of the land owner.

CAN I USE OFF ROAD VEHICLES ON THE PAVEMENT OR FOOTPATH?

Again the simple answer is no. Only vehicles that meet the required standards and are registered with the DVLA can be used on our roads and surrounding areas including car-parks. As well as being registered they must be taxed and insured. An MOT will also be required for vehicles over 3 years old. There is no exemption for vehicles designed for off road use and young people are also not exempt.

OUR ADVICE

- Think carefully before buying a machine.
- Consider your personal responsibilities – you can be prosecuted if you are irresponsible.
- Always get the permission from the owner of private land.
- Ignorance of the law is no excuse against prosecution

Rural Thefts in Lanark – Alert and Prevention Advice

Police Scotland are urging farmers and rural homeowners to check the security of their premises and vehicles, including quads and plant equipment.
Recently, a quad bike was stolen from the Lanark area between the 14th and 15th of April.

We would ask anyone who is offered a quad, plant equipment or tools for sale, that could be stolen, to report it:

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR QUAD BIKE OR ATV:

• Park as close to your premises as possible, preferably out of sight from nearby roads.
• Remove keys when not in use.
• Fit wheel clamps and/or locking posts and consider an alarm.
• Use a garage if available.
• Park larger vehicles in front of access doors to prevent easy access.
• Mark or customise your property so it is easily identifiable. This can deter thieves and assist recovery if they are stolen.
• Consider tracking devices for high value vehicles and machinery and ensure they are in good working order.

RAPID training sessions to tackle rural and machinery theft

Rural crime is rising across Scotland. The theft of plant, machinery, quad bikes and ATVs is now a common issue. Many of these offences are linked to organised crime groups working across divisions and borders.

Police Scotland's Rural, Acquisitive and Business Preventions Team is working with industry partners to help officers tackle this problem. New training sessions held last week focused on the use of Registered Assets Police Information Database (RAPID) to identify and recover stolen assets. Two training sessions were held at Galashiels Police Station and Dalkeith Police HQ on Wednesday 21st January 2026 which were both well attended by proactive, response, community and roads policing officers.

RAPID stands for Registered Assets Police Information Database. It is a web-based system that gives quick access to the CESAR Scheme and Datatag databases.

Officers can check over 650,000 items of plant and machinery and more than 1 million motorcycles.

RAPID can be used on smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops. Searches can be done using full or partial VRMs, engine numbers, VIN numbers and other visible identifiers.
