A little break 💚

Advanced warning! I’m going to be closing the shop for a little break with Lovely before we get into the silly season. 🎄

We’re going to take a few days to recharge, slow down and have a bit of much-needed us time before things get busy again.

So, the shop will be closed:

📅 Monday 14th September
📅 Tuesday 15th September
📅 Wednesday 16th September
📅 Thursday 17th September

We’ll be back open as normal on Friday 18th September, 9am–4pm.

So, if you need your refills, don’t forget to pop in before then! 🫙💚

We had an exciting day earlier in the summer when we had some footage taken of the shop… and it’s finally LIVE! 🎉

You can now take a virtual wander around The Simple Life Unwrapped on Google Maps and have a look at what the shop is like before you visit us. 🛍️🌿

Together with our website, you can now do a bit of planning before you come in — check out what we stock, see where everything is and get those refill jars ready! 🫙

Although obviously, nothing beats coming in for a proper nosey… and you can't beat that gorgeous smell when you walk through the door! 😉💚

What's in my cleaning cupboard? 🧽

Well, Lovely and I have been saving for a dishwasher, and I am VERY happy about it! No more dirty dishes stacking up waiting for me… 🙌😂 So, of course, I’ve got that covered.

Then there are my trusty natural cleaning staples: bicarb, citric acid and vinegar. A bucket for dirty cloths, and that’s pretty much it!

I’ve also been gradually replacing my plastic bottles with glass ones as they break, so I’ve only got a couple of plastic spray bottles left now.

And because I don’t have a different product for every single cleaning job but use simple products that have loads of different uses, my cleaning cupboard is so much tidier.

Less stuff, less plastic, less faff. And a dishwasher. What more could a girl want?

Just a little reminder that it’s Bank Holiday Monday on the 31st August next week, so the shop will be closed while I take the chance to get some much-needed gardening done 🌱☀️

Back to normal on Tuesday, open 10–4pm as usual 😊

What's nearly empty in my kitchen? 🧴

The super-duper power of cleaning vinegar! I always have a bottle under the kitchen sink because it is SO useful.

Use it instead of fabric softener (and no, it doesn't make your laundry smell of fish and chips! 😂), as a brilliant descaler for stubborn limescale, a glass and mirror cleaner, or just as a general all-round cleaner.

You only have to google it and hundreds of uses pop up!

And is it one of those expensive cleaning products? Nope! This bottle will cost me about £1 to refill. 🙌

What do you use cleaning vinegar for? Tell me your best uses! 👇

A teeny tiny swap that can make a big difference to something you use every single day. 🧽

Swap your supermarket green sponge for one of these little scrubbies! It’s made from a combination of cellulose sponge and natural loofah, so it does the job brilliantly without any of the plastic.

And when you’ve finally scrubbed it to within an inch of its life? Chop it into small pieces and pop it on the compost heap.

No waste, no microplastics from your sponge ending up on your crockery… just a simple little swap that’s kinder to your home and the planet. 🌱

Three little things that have been making me happy this week:

🌿 A picnic by the river with the clan – sunshine, good food and my favourite people. What more could you want?

📖 Sitting in the garden with a good book – yesterday’s perfect evening. Just me, my book and a bit of peace and quiet. Bliss.

🌱 Fresh mint tea – straight from the garden and into the mug. Simple, refreshing and absolutely delicious!

Sometimes it really is the little things. 💚

Things I don’t buy anymore… 👀

There are quite a few things that have quietly disappeared from my shopping list over the years.

🧻 Kitchen roll – I have a little basket of reusable cloths that I wash when I do my towel wash. Old flannels, old towels cut up, Swedish dishcloths… basically anything washable that can mop up a spill! No need to keep buying something you use once and throw away.

🧼 Shower gel – I have a soap saver that I chuck all my little bits of soap into and use in the shower. No waste, and it doubles up as a gentle exfoliator too!

🫧 Hand soap – At home we use Neat Foaming Handwash. Lovely loves it, so that's definitely a seal of approval from the person I have successfully dragged into eco-consciousness 😉😂

It’s funny how many things you stop buying once you find a reusable, refillable or less wasteful alternative. And the bonus? You often save money too!

What’s something you don’t buy anymore?

🌿 Another refill price comparison!

A customer bought 106g of mixed herbs from us last week for just £3.35.
To get roughly the same amount from Sainsbury’s, they’d need 8 jars (because you can’t buy half a jar 😉), costing a grand total of £9.20 for 112g.

That’s a whopping £5.85 saving! 💰

And people say refill shops are expensive… 🤔

That’s a saving that’s hard to be-leaf! 🌿😂

I hate food waste... so when Mom gave her mint a serious haircut, there was no way all those lovely leaves were going to end up in the green bin! 🌿

I've now got a bag full of fresh mint to use up, so I'm chopping it and freezing it in ice cube trays. Some cubes will have a splash of olive oil ready for cooking and dressings, and others just water so I can drop them straight into a mug for fresh mint tea whenever I fancy.

I did think about drying some in the residual heat of the oven this week... but if I'm honest, I just can't be bothered with the faff! 😂 Freezing it is quick, easy, and means nothing goes to waste.

How do you preserve your fresh herbs?
