One of the questions I hear most often is:

ā€œWill everyone already know each other?ā€

Usually not.

Tea just makes it easier to start the conversation.

I’ve been thinking about what makes people come back to tea events.

It’s not the tasting notes. Though those can be fascinating.

Or learning how tea is made. Though people often enjoy that too.

What people talk about afterwards is who they met, the conversations they had, and how they spent their time.

That’s why I’m excited to be launching a new series of Sunday Morning Tea Socials.

Bright, sociable gatherings with good tea and good company.

No presentation.

No tea expertise required.

Just a welcoming space to spend a Sunday morning chatting, meeting new people and enjoying a pot of tea together.

The last Sunday of the month, 11am.

First dates are:

28 June

26 July

30 August

If that sounds like your kind of Sunday morning, I’d love to see you there.

What makes a good Sunday morning?

For me, it’s not necessarily staying in bed until noon.

And it’s not rushing around trying to cram every possible thing into the weekend either.

It’s getting out of the house.

Seeing people.

Having a good conversation.

Doing something enjoyable without watching the clock.

I’ve been thinking about this recently as I’ve been planning a new series of Sunday morning tea socials.

Not because everyone needs more tea (though that helps).

But because I think we could all use more opportunities to spend time together.

What makes a good Sunday morning for you?

Have you seen those reels about the girls’ weekend finally getting out of the group chat?

Or the one where every trip has a planner, a navigator, and at least one person who has no idea what’s going on?

They make me laugh.

I’m the planner.
The ā€œhere’s something we could doā€ person.
The booker.

In Milan, I organised the Duomo tour.
Rooftop terraces.
Lift up.
Skip-the-queue tickets.

All very efficient.

But the memory?

Sitting on a terrace afterwards with the girls.

Drinks in hand.
Sun on our faces.
No plan. No rush.

Just being there.

A moment that turns into a proper conversation.

So whether it’s a weekend away, a day out, or something you’re putting together for other people -

leave space for that.

Because that’s the part they take home with them.

Happy International Tea Day from Milan.

It’s the land of coffee here in Italy, but the cafĆ© had a small selection of teas for me.

Italian waiter making me feel special šŸ˜‚

We’ve been out sightseeing all day.
Busy, hot and lots of walking.

So this is our pause.

And a chance to sit down together before we head off again.

It’s not about the tea being perfect.

It’s just about taking a moment…
wherever you are.

Setting up in Dunfermline today for a Veterans Tribe Scotland tea tasting.

The tablecloth and china tea set have become regular guests at these events now šŸƒšŸ«–šŸµ

Tea tastings are never really just about tea.

They’re about pause, conversation, memory, connection and creating space for people to gather together.

Tomorrow: Irvine.

Home now from our campervan trip to the Netherlands, I’ve realised the moments we keep talking about aren’t the things we bought.

They’re the experiences.

The atmosphere before our Visma Lease-a-Bike ā€œIn the Heart of the Race Experienceā€ at Amstel Gold.

People gathering hours beforehand.
Our shared excitement.
And the moments that become the stories we repeat afterwards.

That’s why I’ll choose experiences over things every time.

Someone told me recently they were excited about booking a tea tasting because it meant they finally had a reason to use their china tea set again.

Apparently it’s been sitting in a cupboard for years.

I loved that.

Not because everything needs to match perfectly or feel formal.

More because sometimes we just need an excuse to bring things out, gather people together, and actually use the things we’ve been saving.

Tea seems to be very good for that.

Tea outdoors always tastes special.

Is it the fresh air, the slower mornings, or just finally getting five minutes to sit still?

Not sure.

But I’m here for it.

Location: Camping des Breuils, Verdun, France

A lot of people assume they wouldn’t know what to say at a tea tasting.

That they’d need to be able to ā€œtaste properlyā€.
Or have the right words for it.

But that’s not really how it works.

Most of the time, it starts with fairly simple things.

ā€œThis one’s nicer than I expected.ā€ā€Øā€œI don’t usually like green tea, but I like this.ā€ā€Øā€œIt tastes a bit… toasty?ā€

And that’s enough.

Because once someone says something, someone else adds to it.

Or disagrees.

Or laughs and says they’re getting something completely different.

It builds from there.
No wrong answers.
No pressure to get it ā€œrightā€.

Just people noticing what they notice, and talking about it.

That’s usually when it becomes enjoyable.

If you’ve ever thought ā€œI wouldn’t know enough for something like thatā€ā€¦ you don’t need to.

If you want to come along to the next one, send me a message and I’ll let you know when it’s happening.
