Brackla Farm Free Range Eggs is a family run business in the Highlands of Scotland. We have 48,000 free range hens producing top quality eggs. We pride ourselves on having healthy, happy hens which are fed with our own wheat and barley produced on our farm. Our eggs are produced to the highest welfare standards and we hope that you enjoy our eggs as much as we enjoy producing them for you.

JOB VACANCY: WEEKEND EGG PACKER
LOCATION: Wester Calcots, Elgin, IV30 5PH
Brackla Farm Free Range Eggs are looking to recruit a Weekend Egg Packer for our automated Egg Production Facility at Wester Calcots, Elgin.
The ideal candidate will:
β’ Be hard working, reliable and have perfect attendance.
β’ Enjoy working independently, and as part of a team with good problem-solving abilities
β’ Have a flexible approach with a good team spirit and can-do attitude
β’ Minimum age 16 years old
Start time is 8.00 am Saturday and Sunday, for 4-5 hours each day.

**ELGIN EGG HUT NEW OPENING HOURS**
Unfortunately due to attempted robberies πͺ we are having to limit our opening hours at our Elgin hut. There will be eggs in the hut from 8am-4pm everyday, I am afraid there will be no eggs available out of these hours.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope this will only be for a limited time.
P.S. Double yolkers are due in about 2 weeks π π₯ π³

Our wheat 2020 harvest has started!! πΎ
We need about 1500 tonnes of wheat and barley a year to feed all 48,000 of our hens π, all of this we grow on our own farm!!! Our hens certainly have low food miles with their dinner.
We like to think that our high quality wheat and barley help make our eggs delicious and our yolks lovely and golden π³π₯π

Can we please ask all customers to follow government guidelines and use hand sanitizer provided before entering our huts.

**CLOSED FOR FARM EGG SALES**
Due to the current Covid-19 outbreak, we have taken the difficult decision to close our egg huts as of Wednesday 25th March, this decision was taken in order to protect our staff as well as our loyal and valued customers. We will continue to review this decision and keep you updated on our page with regards to reopening. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
In the meantime you can still get our eggs at Hardmuir Farm Shop, Brodie Countryfare, Househill Farm Shop, Cawdor Village Store and the Grantown Dairy.

Thatβs our alpacas in for their annual haircut tomorrow. π¦ Due to the bad weather we have to take them inside this year, as you canβt sheer them when their fleeces are wet. They will also get their teeth π¦· checked and their hooves trimmed at the same time!
Think of it as their annual service!

Our new flock of hens have just started laying, this means lots of big double yolkers are available in our egg huts now!! π π₯ π₯ π³ π³
Finally got the last of our wheat cut after a long and challenging harvest ππΎπ π§
We feed all the wheat we grow to our hens as part of a balanced diet ππ
Thanks to Mark Garrick Ltd for the tank like combine, which meant we could get through all the wet patches in our fields βοΈ
Our six alpacas had their fleeces sheered, toes trimmed and teeth checked this week. The transformation is quite amazing ππ© lets hope for some better weather so they don't get too chilly βοΈβοΈβοΈ

We did ask our chooks to take a break from laying eggs today but they insisted carrying on. Special thanks to our little helper who is full of festive cheer π³π₯ππ
With a little help from the lovely weather πβοΈ we've been having lately we managed to start harvesting our wheat yesterday πΎπ.
All the wheat we grow is fed to our hens who eat a massive 500 tonnes every year.π
The wheat is mixed with other ingredients such as soya and barley to provide a balanced diet for our hens. This helps them to lay the best eggs. π³π
Baby Katie is delighted to announce that her clever daddy won best egg producer at the 2016 Scottish Egg Quality Awardsππ³ππΎπ
Our eggs were tried and tested by the judges. They decided ours were outstanding in terms of size, colour and taste. We were very eggcited to receive this award π
Our ladies π have been busy the past few days laying these 85,000 eggsπ³.They are now ready to be collected by Farmlay Eggs πto get packed and ready for the supermarket shelves.

Look out for our HUGE eggs in the huts at Elgin and Brackla this week. Most are double yolkers π³π³ππ
This is because our new flock of hens in shed 2 are settling into their laying pattern. For the first few weeks there are often lots of double yolkers.
The eggs in our huts cost Β£1/half dozen and are usually no more than 2 days old.
Meet Boggis, Bunce and Bean (one fat, one short, one lean) our resident alpacas. Their job is to keep our hens safe from Fantastic Mr Fox.
