Apparently opening a health food café at 46 and 52, while navigating perimenopause, is a very specific kind of chaos. 😂
When we opened The Health Hut, we had visions of healthy homemade food, beautiful matcha, great coffee and generally embracing our new wellness-girlie era. 🌿
What we hadn’t fully factored in was the brain fog, hot flushes, forgetting why we’d walked into the stockroom and regularly accusing each other of moving something that is, in fact, exactly where it’s always been.
There are lots of gorgeous health cafés run by effortlessly cool twenty-somethings.
And then there’s us.
Two middle-aged women in a tiny Nottinghamshire village who decided that THIS was the perfect stage of life to open a 100% gluten-free health food café.
No hospitality background.
No slicked-back buns.
Occasional brain fog.
Strong opinions about coffee.
One of us keeps forgetting customer orders.
The other is trying to pass off opening the sensor bin as dancing.
And apparently we’re matcha girlies now. 😂
But here’s the bit we genuinely didn’t expect…
We absolutely bloody love it. ❤️
There’s something quite brilliant about getting to midlife and deciding to do something completely new. To learn as you go. Make mistakes. Laugh at yourselves. Meet loads of lovely people. And realise you’re nowhere near done having new adventures yet.
So yes, we may occasionally forget why we walked into a room…
but we’re building something we’re ridiculously proud of while we’re in there. 😂💚
