Friday 14 August was stifling hot.
This video shows the bees cooling the colony by fanning at the entrace to the hive 🤩
You can also see a few bees 'washboarding' - rocking back & forth and scraping their front legs. The consensus among many beekeepers is that these bees are cleaning, polishing, or prepping the wood surface to remove micro-debris or smooth out microscopic cracks but there's still no definitive answer as to what they are doing.

These are at the entrance to the empty hive that was irresistible to a swarm - they made themselves at home on 2nd June 😆

We have honeycomb 😍
We put special frames in the hives, with no wax 'foundation', so the bees make their own wax framework to fill with honey.
We cut rectangles and pop it in boxes. You eat it, wax & all. Simple!
Straight from hive to box with just a knife to cut it.
We will be taking this, plus jars of honey & chunk honey, to the pop-up market at Gusto House car park tomorrow, Sat 1 August. Green Way, Collingham NG23 7DX between 8am & 2pm

We're so excited to be attending Collingham Craft Market on Saturday, 11 July, between 10am and 2pm 🍯 🍯 🍯
Honey harvested Monday & Thursday this week 🐝 🐝 🐝
Drop in to the Memorial Hall to see us, sample the honey, browse all of the amazing stalls and stop for a drink and cake 🤩

Swarming Bees

I saw a few bees checking out a newly-painted hive this morning so Cliff had a look inside. A couple of dozen bees were running around having a look then they left.

10 mins later they're back - with a few thousand more!! They were scouts looking for a new location to set up a colony 😍
Within 20 mins they were all inside.
Turn the SOUND UP.

Honey in about 3 weeks time, we hope!
The bees are busy, especially loving the compost around the bee balm. We don't know which particular nutrient they are collecting but there's a good dozen or so at any one time in that spot.
And helping me do more potting 😍 🐝
