Oglesbees Ltd. Welcome to Oglesbees honey! We are a couple of beekeepers local to the Newark area who keep bees all over Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

We supply honey of all varieties, perfect for your breakfast, cooking recipes or for hayfever!

The queen doing what she does best! 🥚

This is from one of our observation hives, where the comb is behind glass so you can actually watch what’s normally hidden inside the hive.

The queen is seriously one busy bee! She lays one egg at a time and up to 2000 eggs a day at her peak!

We love being able to capture clips like this because it’s not something we get to see very often either 👀

She’s here 👑

(One of my favourite clips. Filmed back in spring, but never gets old.)

This is a queen bee hatching - chewing her way out of her queen cell after developing for about 16 days.
No matter how many times we see it, it’s still one of our favourite moments in the hive.

This is not what you might think.

This is not swarming. This is ROBBING. 🐝

The bees are stealing honey from a hive that is not theirs.

Not going to pretend this one wasn’t on me — I had a box sitting slightly wonky during an inspection, and with a nectar dearth on, that gap was all the invitation the bees needed. Escalated into full-blown chaos within minutes.. Lesson learned the hard way — again 😅

Life has been incredibly busy the last few weeks, with the end of the summer holidays, a family trip to France, then back to beekeeping/work and now back to school! Hence the radio silence. Apparently I can’t do everything at once after all…

Don’t know about any one else but I’m ready for a holiday! 🫠

Thought I’d ease myself back into social media by posting some clips from today’s visit to one of our apiaries and seeing if anyone can guess what these little contraptions are and maybe even what they do!

Beekeepers I see you 👀 keep the correct answers to yourselves (I don’t mind if you throw some red herrings in there 😈).

Hands up - who knew what a proboscis was? 🙌🏼

We love being able to see these amazing insects do such cool insect things up close! Here they are just tidying up a bit of spilled honey using their proboscis which, as well as acting like a straw, is also bendy and kind of scary close up.
