Browsing through Facebook whilst it continues to spit with rain, and stumbled across the analytics section and found this……

Who’d have thought a bit of late silage and my excitement over some cheap lights could attract so much attention.

Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared and followed our small corner of Nottinghamshire. Remember to like and follow our page for more updates whether it be cows, mistakes, machinery and everything else in between!!

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Look at that regrowth! This was one of the field I mowed 6 days ago….. it’s an old fashioned meadow ley that has received muck in the last autumn and 100kg of fertiliser in 2 applications (one in spring and one in early September) It’s amazing how quick this has bounced back with a bit of heat and some moisture, if only it had bounced back this quick after we’d cut hay in June. This field will be rested over winter then depending on cover will be either cut for silage or left for hay till June.

And that is a wrap, just as it’s starting to spit! For those wishing to know we got 116 bales off 36 acres so an average of 3.2 bales to the acre. Certainly better stood in the yard than on the field. Shifting it with some classic 💪 to reduce compaction as it’s on wider tyres.

It’s all rowed up waiting to be baled. There’s a good wind here helping to take some of the moisture away, just praying now that black cloud doesn’t spoil my efforts. 🤞🏼🙈 if you want to find out how many bales we ended up with and what sort of quality it is in the end give me a like and a follow 😊

That’s half the silage rowed up to give me head start in the morning 😊 The downside to running older machinery is starting with most of the lights working to now only one back light, and let me tell you it’s a challenge to see with what is like a candle 🤣 on the plus side the road likes work! Yet another winter job to do 🙄

Second cut silage mowed…… we have struggled this year to get enough silage to feed the cows over winter, with 38 acres mowed today that should hopefully see us through. This will get turned out tomorrow and rowed up, baled and wrapped on Monday 🤞🏼

I’m not one to do reviews of stuff however….. I’m over the moon with the nights drawing in I spent the lofty sum of £25.58 on a 150w LED floodlight on Amazon.co.uk to make life easier doing the evening checks.

The boss has been out making sure all the stock are to standard. She’s been and collected the eggs then trying to give the chickens a thank you stroke…… they weren’t keen😂

The sheep however were more than welcoming of a stroke….. these are the last 6 we’ve got and will be heading to market at some point in the near future as they are being phased out in favour of more cows.

After last year I said never again…….. however, here we are.

I’ve got 350 conventional (little bales) of hay for sale.

Nice soft stuff, well made, in nice easy to handle bales.
