And here it is, the cake from last weekend, the Song of Solomon Cake. The brief from the couple was to use themes from the wedding ceremony, incorporating the poetry of the Songs of Solomon with pomegranates symbolising sanctity, abundance and fertility.

After an amazing holiday to Florida, I haven’t been able to leave Disney behind just yet and had to do a special cake for my youngest’s birthday, who loved Donald Duck. I think his little face when he was about to blow the candles out was worth the 3am finish last night!

It’s a week late, but Happy Chinese New Year!
🧧🏮🐲
I was definitely waaay ambitious hoping to turn this one around in 4 days.
This isn’t cake though, it’s chocolate and boy is chocolate a temperamental medium; mushy if hot and rock hard when cold.

Lots of lessons learned, but mainly that I’ll stick to fondant in the future and not start projects at the last minute!

This Chinese dragon is made from solid chocolate and weighs in at a hefty 7kgs, using almost 30 bars of white chocolate.
(Apologies if you were in Gosforth Asda this week and wondering where all the chocolate went!)

This year’s Thank You box for the amazing nursery staff who do such a brilliant job with the kids. My youngest’s reputation for record dangling snots have challenged even the most seasoned nursery workers, so a big thank you to them for all the bogey wiping from us!

School’s out for summer! My eldest’s first year of school is over and what a year it’s been.

It’s been non-stop PTA events, keeping up with school emails, juggling holidays and after school clubs and uniform washing! But it’s also been an amazing year of seeing him grow and thrive at school and take his first step in the big wide world out there.

Earlier this year for his show and tell, I made a cake themed around the school’s close ties to the neighbouring nature reserve and his bee themed class and to say thank you to the staff, some bee themed mini cakes!

Now off to survive the next 6 weeks…😅

Happy 4th Birthday to our beautiful goddaughter who celebrated with a princess mermaid themed party. 🧜‍♀️ 👑

I don’t think I’ve ever finished a cake so close to a deadline before, this was completed 15 minutes before the party started 😅. Cake making after 8 years still has its challenges and keeps me on my toes!

It’s about this time of year I make my biggest cake creations for Alexander’s birthday, each year bigger and better than the last. Unfortunately, this year I ran out of time due to a mix of pre-Christmas flu which hit the whole family and a Christmas away which meant a highly stressed out and exhausted mum trying to do too much in addition to organising a party. At 1pm yesterday I decided that no cake was worth the stress and I decided to down my tools and opt for a Costco cake instead, which I enjoyed far more watching Alexander having fun decorate. Sometimes you just can’t have your cake and eat it, but Costco cake is still a great cake and much better than a nervous breakdown. And did I mention Alexander doesn’t even like cake?!

Congratulations to Jaya and Jag who celebrated their wedding in style at the weekend.
I was asked to make a cake that was ‘white and elegant with an autumnal feel’ so I had free reign to design the cake and use new mediums such as edible rice paper and combining it with kirigami art for effect to which was then added dried autumnal flowers specially picked and selected by Feel Pretty
