HOLIDAY ALERT!! Folks we're off on our hols at the end of this week and in the meantime we've put the last batch of our Lavender milk bar - think English gardens, Pimms, deckchairs and a snippet of cricket - up on the website as well as a little batch of Brazillian Cappuccino (dreamy milk coffee topped with, yup you guessed right, toasted Brazils). Our last day of sending out will by Thursday 27th August before we leg it to sunny shores. Never fear, we'll be back on Tuesday 8th September and then it's full steam ahead for shhh, Xmas...Arrivederci!

Too hot to make choccy, so a perfect time to have my lovely ma-in-law up for a visit and boy, did we pack it in! A day trip to the glorious Raby Castle, Park and Gardens with stupendously planted gardens and less cracks in the centuries old castle than our house. Then off to the delicious Hexham Abbey with a diversion to the brill shops including our stockist matthiaswinter then dinner Bouchon Bistrot. A quick detour to for a nip to RE, Corbridgelarder Forum Books + the bound + The Accidental Bookshop and lunch The Angel of Corbridge and finally the coast for a paddle and icecream! We deserved it...☀️ Cooler this week, so back to work tomorrow with a vengeance! Boo...😂

It's been a tough summer folks so far - I've worked hard - juggling making when it's too hot and humid, doing great events (thanks to everyone who came to Brancepeth Castle last week!), while finally doing admin I thought I could ignore for another month - AND I've played hard. Up till 2.45am (unheard of since 1987) with my pals Fat Lass Preserves , Fiona & Diane in bonny Scotland and then off to Leeds for Kiwi margaritas (not Premier Chimney Sweeping Services's cup of tea as you can tell from the pic...) and graduations with our godson. I'm knackered. However, this weekend I plan to talk to no-one and do as little as possible in the run up to the fab Northern Artisans' Markets next Sunday in the gorgeous village of Embleton at Creighton Memorial Hall. With a lovely mix of local artists including Jane Charles Studio Glass, Jane Harbottle Artist, jewellery maker Diane Stewardson Jewellery and tonnes more, this is a laidback, lovingly curated event where you get to talk to the artists and p'raps buy a thing or two. Or instead stock up at Embleton's The Village Farm Shop and leg it to the beach. Or even better do both! Hope to see you next Sunday, 9th, 10am-4pm - we'll have your favourites and perhaps a few more summery ones to keep the good times rolling!

Two weeks till the fabulous Brancepeth Castle's Summer Craft Fair! After nearly having a little meltdown at Festival of Thrift last weekend (the heat, not my temper - and a huge thank you to everyone who came!), I'm pleased to report that I am in the huge, COOL ballroom of this unique private castle, kicking off on Friday 24th July. We don't do a lot in the summer - too hot/humid to make, too hot/humid to stand flogging and too hot/humid for people to carry chocolate/ cakes/ fudge/ cheese etc but make the odd exception and this is one of them. We'll also have a blast from the past with our Lavender milk chocolate bar! We haven't done this for a while but, with all the sun, we thought why not? If you like our florals - Geranium and Violet bars, we think you may like this one too. From fine art and and beautiful glass from Jane Charles Studio Glass, pottery, plants and jewellery to gorgeous grub, including my fave The Velveteen Rabbit Luncheon club and me obvs, every bit of this fair is handmade, unique and hand-picked and supported by the owners. There's workshops, a cafe and loads of parking and tickets are available online (which help go towards the castle's huge upkeep -see the leaflet below for more details), so hope to see you there! Friday 24th-Sunday 26th July.

Earlier this month is was ran by the Entrepreneurs Circle and it was estimated that small businesses and the economy got a £12m boost thanks to this initiative and others such as Small Business Saturday UK. Every penny spent locally makes a difference - up to 68% of every £100 stays within our region's economy, compared to the tiny amount the big boys generate. So just a suggestion for this weekend coming and Dad's Day on Sunday. Please think about popping into your local gift shop/ deli/ farmshop / bottle shop or butcher to treat your dad. We've some fabulous stockists if you fancy a bar of chocolate but we guarantee, along with us they'll have some crackers that will spoil the Big Man but will also make a difference to the people who have made them and the people in our local, independent shops who sell them. Use 'em or lose 'em folks.

We miss our Dad, the wonderful JT (see below right, fag in hand), who once dressed up as Noddy Holder for a film thanks to his magnificent ginger sideburns, who was never a drinker but liked a fag and liked his family even more. So we'll be lifting a glass to him on Sunday and for all of you who still have your Dad, Da, Fatha, Papa, Père, or whatever you call him (play nice), give him a squeeze from us.
