If you’re after honey we’re about this weekend. The full range is available again as I’ve been busy this week jarring and preparing things like the cut comb and jars of Chunk Honey. Send us a message if you’re thinking of stopping by. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Some new EU legislation came into force in June this year. Whilst it’s not in force here we’ll probably see some cross over on the labels for the UK. Basically honey producers can’t hide any more behind the ‘Produce of EU and non EU countries’ Which means anywhere in the world, and usually China. Have a look at the label in the pic. If you look at it closely, very closely as the lettering couldn’t get much smaller, you’ll see it’s from China. What they never wanted you to know.
For info a batch of Hilltop honey was ordered to be destroyed recently in Sweden as it was found to be adulterated with sugar. It doesn’t come as a surprise to any of us beekeepers. Shop local and get exactly what you’re paying for and details of the full journey of your honey from hive to jar.

We had a great time at the Sun Flower Family Funday at Seghill today. The event raised funds for some deserving good causes and we donated a honey hamper for their raffle. Lots of regulars collected their honey, and many new friends of Harwood learned about how bees and other pollinators can benefit the environment.
There were even some Highland Coos!
Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday weekend folks. I’m putting my feet up now for a rest!

We’ve been doing a little more honey extracting today. To make sure you’re getting top quality honey we test to ensure the honey meets the standards and regulations laid down by law. Here you can see the water content of the latest batch at around the 17% mark. Right in that sweet spot. Below 20% at which it’ll ferment and above 15% where it’ll quickly set like concrete. The second image is a refractometer, which we apply a little honey to the lens and take a reading like looking through a telescope!
Right, back to work and next job is sorting out the cut comb for this weekend!

For All You Bee Lovers: The Rivals of Amziah King
Awaiting official release date in UK.

Imagine a story rooted in the heart of rural Oklahoma, where family ties, tradition, and a buzzing world of bees come alive. This is the world of The Rivals of Amziah King, starring Matthew McConaughey, a film that captures the essence of a family honey business filled with the sweet hum of beekeeping, the soulful sounds of bluegrass, and the complex drama only family can bring.
At its core, the film is more than just about honey and bees. It’s about the struggles and bonds that hold a family together through thick and thin. The rustic setting paints a vivid backdrop of rural life, where every moment feels intimate and raw.
Critics have already embraced this gem, awarding it a remarkable 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the best-reviewed films of the year. It’s a story that resonates deeply, weaving together warmth, tension, and a touch of trouble that keeps you hooked until the very end.
For anyone who loves heartfelt storytelling wrapped in the charm of simple, honest life—and for those fascinated by the delicate world of bees—this film is a must-watch. It’s a celebration of family, tradition, and the unexpected challenges that come with both.
So, whether you’re a bee enthusiast or just someone who appreciates a well-told tale, The Rivals of Amziah King offers a rich, emotional experience that’s as sweet as honey itself.

Today was spent harvesting honey and getting some hives winter ready. If you think you have problems with your late summer BBQs and wasps, try opening a beehive. They’re there in seconds. This frame has small amounts of nectar in it but the wasps still swooped in for a sneaky feed. They follow me back to the car, swoop in on the harvested honey and I have to drive back home with the windows open to try and get rid of them. Even though they can be irritating our hives have plenty of bees to repel them if they get too greedy. Tonight will spent doing more honey extracting. If you need any more just send us a message.

Started off today researching some new locations for our hives. This spot was quite remote and I disturbed a couple of young deer. You can just see their behinds disappearing over a hill when I finally zoomed in on them. Finished off harvesting a little more cut comb honey and I know we’ve had a lot of enquiries for it. I should have it ready before next weekend. Plus some chunk honey.

Just for giggles 😉
