Who remembers this LEGEND OF A GENTLEMAN and his advert

If you listened to Metro Radio in the 1980s or 1990s, you will undoubtedly remember one of the most beloved local adverts ever to hit the airwaves.

Mr Rahman became a true Tyneside legend by self-narrating his own radio commercials in his completely inimitable style. Operating out of his tailor shop at 190 Westgate Road, right near the motorbike shops, his distinctive and heartfelt delivery made his business an absolute cult classic across the North East.

Who could possibly forget his famous opening line: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mr Rahman speaking. Please listen." He would then famously promise to "replace the zip in trouser, skirt and jean for only one pound", before proudly declaring he could alter anything "from a top coat to a bikini".

While the advert itself was incredibly simple, it remains permanently etched into Tyneside folklore – instantly recognisable to an entire generation long after most high-budget commercials of the era have been completely forgotten.
