📑 6 Findings from recent Predator Control Study

What really happens when predator control stops in the UK uplands? A major study has shed light on the devastating impact on some of our most vulnerable ground-nesting birds:

🦊 Predators like foxes and crows quickly increased
🪺 Lapwing, snipe and golden plover populations saw near-total collapse
🪶 Red grouse numbers dropped by over 50% in just one year
☠️ Black grouse and grey partridge became locally extinct
🔕 Breeding bird calls fell silent, especially in spring
📉 Biodiversity dropped, showing how predator control supports wider conservation

Seven hundred years of English Cooking can’t be wrong. So little mention of a plant based diet in this book I wander if it ought to be lifted from all shelves and burnt 🔥

At no point in the evolution of the human being have we not relied on dead stuff to feed or clothe our paltry flesh.

Take a look around you. Who looks the most healthy, with vitality and a twinkle in their eyes.

In the coming weeks I am selling all my cookery books/baking tins/street food trailer as well as any intellectual property I own in relation to my business activities over the last 25 yrs.
I exit a food industry that refuses to comply with some basic food safety requirements that will allow me and anyone else for that matter, to trade with confidence.
Well done for ALL of the indie businesses who have tried to work within this industry and good luck to anyone who gives it a go.

Being a small privately owned commercial enterprise has been the love of my life. Ask my my children and few exes.

Representative organisations have their fingers in all but my pies. Stifling innovation. Refusing to allow none representative persons (commercial enterprise) to flourish. Trying to take ‘control’ of stuff they only have half an idea for, sidelining excellent progressive projects within their own ranks, investing in flops and pr campaigns not required, setting the food side of the industry back by 10 yrs. Not to mention using membership funds to back a million pound leaflet campaign that was already being funded by them! Fe cking crazy at the top end.

20 yrs ago I attended a course with my local EHO. We were so happy, enthusiastic for the future….. zero follow up apart from in-house nonsense.
Only one campaign has had my backing and that is Trusted Game funded by independent businesses who know what they are talking about (as commercial enterprises ). No hand outs. No grants. No blue envelopes. No sc***um tickling to get the results they have to have in order to trade.

Is the shooting industry doomed?

In the UK, peat bogs are ‘our largest terrestrial carbon store, a haven for rare wildlife, a record of our past, and natural providers of water regulation. – Only 13% of England’s peatlands are in a near natural state.’ (From the foreword of the ‘England Peat Action Plan’ of May 2021.) The ‘UK Peatland Strategy 2018-2040’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has similar statements on the value of peatlands as a carbon store and unique habitat.
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) 2012, states in paragraph 180, clause (c) that ‘development resulting in the loss or deterioration of irreplaceable habitats (such as ancient woodland and ancient or veteran trees) should be refused, unless there are wholly exceptional reasons and a suitable compensation strategy exists;’ Natural England have consistently argued that peatlands are clearly irreplaceable habitats.
Incredibly, there is no protection for peat moss in England, despite the widely-recognised importance of mossland as mentioned above. Even the most degraded mossland will release millions of tonnes of CO2e if developed on, as the peat dries out. Achieving ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 is a statutory requirement for the UK and England, yet many authorities do not take into account the greenhouse gases released by mosslands in their area.

Ban all development on all peatlands in the UK
