🌮🔥 CARDIFF’S HOTTEST NEW MEXICAN SPOT?! 🔥🌮

We finally checked out Cardiff’s newest Tex-Mex obsession — .cartel 😍 and this one is bringing the FLAVOUR 🤤

From the same team behind the legends at PoutineBox , the guys wanted to branch out and create something completely different. Bringing slow cooked birria, Tex-Mex comfort food and BIG bold flavours to Cardiff 🌮🔥 Usually exclusive to Uber Eats, they’ve now landed at a pop-up in Tiger Yard for the next few weeks, giving you the chance to try it fresh before it disappears 👀

Chow Cartel focuses on slow-cooked birria, loaded tacos, nachos and unique items like their birria spring roll👀 All packed with flavour and served with rich dipping consommé 🌶️

We tried:

🌮 Birria Con Todo Tacos.
🐔 Pollo Con Todo Tacos.
🥩 Birria Beef Nachos.
🫔 Birria Spring Roll.
🫓 Soft Shell Cauliflower Tacos.
🍫 Churros.

What stood out most was how much of the menu leans into those proper Mexican flavours without overcomplicating things. Slow-cooked meats, smoky spice, sharp lime, fresh pico, rich consommé and that balance of heat, acidity and comfort all working together. Nothing felt overdone or gimmicky, just bold, messy food that actually delivers on flavour and leaves you wanting the next bite 🌮

For us, the most unique item on the menu was the Birria spring roll! WOW WOW WOW😍🤯 Honestly… this thing was the complete definition of comfort food 🤯 Crispy on the outside, packed with slow cooked birria goodness inside and dipped into that rich consommé… unreal 😮‍💨 Easily one of the standout dishes and something we’ve genuinely not seen anywhere else in Cardiff!

Now the weather is starting to pick up, what’s better than some cracking Mexican food and a few cold ones?😜🍻 Get yourself down to Tiger Yard and get your ands on .cartel whilst they are still there!!

🐔 FOWL & FURY 🔥

We’ve been on a Nashville chicken tour for months and somehow saved one of the most hyped until last 👀💥

Over the last few months we’ve somehow found ourselves on a bit of a Nashville chicken tour, hunting down some of the best South Wales (and even Belfast) has to offer. was the final one left on the hit list to tick off… for now 👀

Already earning a bit of a cult following in Cathays and Canton, have built their name around doing one thing really well…Nashville hot fried chicken. Starting out in Cardiff, they’ve become known for serving up proper juicy, spice-packed chicken with heat levels for everyone, everything from cautious dabblers to full-on spice fanatics🔥 With queues, hype and a seriously loyal fanbase behind them, they’ve now officially opened their newest spot in .market . So naturally, we had to see what all the fuss was about 😏

So… did it live up to the hype?

We went for the Nashville fried chicken tenders with a side of crinkle fries and ranch 🤤 We played it relatively safe and went for the mild but honestly, even they were hotter than what we expected 😂 But now we’re seriously tempted to go back and try their HOT version just to see what it’s all about - as well as their chicken sandwich👀

We will be honest, they’ve absolutely aced the chicken. The seasoning? Spot on. The crispy outer coating? Unreal. The flavours? Exceptional. Chicken is what Fowl & Fury are known for and they’ve bloody smashed it. Proper juicy, packed with flavour and exactly what you want from Nashville fried chicken. It’s clear that they’ve spent years perfecting this recipe👏🏻

The crinkle fries with ranch were pretty simple, but sometimes simple works! Our only tiny gripe would be that we wished there was a little more ranch sauce on there as it felt slightly sparse. That being said, their homemade ranch really hit the target. Creamy, fresh and packed with flavour, making it the perfect match for the spicy chicken 😮‍💨

🍯🌶️ Something a little different on the page today… 👀

You all know us for finding the best food spots, but this time we brought the food to our own kitchen 😍 We whipped up this Hot Honey Pepperoni Pasta Bake and honestly… it might be one of the best comfort food dishes we’ve made. Think crispy pepperoni, cheesy pasta and that sweet-spicy hot honey kick 🤤

This was literally SO easy to make!!

Ingredients:👇🏻
• 300g pasta (we used rigatoni)
• 400g chopped tomatoes
• 1 tbsp tomato purée
• 1 tsp harissa (optional)
• 1 tsp oregano
• 1 tsp sugar
• 1 tbsp honey
• 1 tsp chilli flakes
• 50g pepperoni
• 150g mozzarella (grated or sliced)
• 350ml chicken stock
• 2 tbsp ricotta
• Juice & zest of 1 lemon 🍋
• 5g fresh basil 🌿

This bake is packed with flavour. Rich tomato sauce, melty mozzarella, crispy pepperoni, creamy ricotta and that unreal balance of sweet honey with a little chilli heat 🔥 It’s basically pizza and pasta combined into one ridiculously comforting dish… and safe to say, there were no leftovers 😮‍💨

🇨🇳 MAO CHINESE - NORTHERN IRELAND 🥢

Controversial opinion: Chinese in Northern Ireland are FAR better than Wales 👀 (don’t come for us 😂)

Forget unpacking the bags… this is our FIRST stop every single time we’re back in Northern Ireland 🥡🔥

Everytime we head back to visit family, there’s one non-negotiable stop before anything else… our favourite Chinese 🥡 And honestly? We’ve tried SO many in Wales but nothing even comes close to replicating this 😭

For just £12, this munch box came loaded with:
🥢 6 Veg Spring Rolls
🥢 5 Chicken Balls
🥢 Salt & Chilli Chicken
🥢 Salt & Chilli Ribs
🥢 Salt & Chilli Chips
🥢 Curry Sauce

As if that wasn’t enough, we also grabbed a side of the Garlic Chicken Balls and OMG 🤤 these were unlike anything we’ve had before. Crispy, garlicky and dangerously addictive.

This is the kind of Chinese that instantly reminds us why it’s our favourite. In fact, everytime Cerys comes back with me to visit family, this is literally our first stop and often has to get another before coming home😂😍

The ONLY thing we’d change? A slightly bigger pot of curry sauce because there is A LOT of food to get through and that little tub disappears fast 😂

But for £12?! This is an absolute BARGAIN and one thing we wish we could bring back to Wales with us 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

🍪 THE LITTLE BAKE BOX - PORT TALBOT 🍫

If oversized, gooey cookies are your thing, this one deserves a spot on your radar…😮‍💨

Looking for your next sweet treat fix? We recently picked up a box of bakes from in Neath Port Talbot, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
Specialising in all things baked, from giant stuffed cookies to brownies and even old school cake, this local business has plenty on offer for anyone with a sweet tooth 👀

In our box we had:

🍪 Kinder Cookie
🍪 Custard Cream Cookie
🍪 Biscoff Cookie
🍪 Caramel Twix Cookie
🍫 2x Chocolate Brownies

The cookies were thick, soft and packed with flavour, with gooey centres and generous fillings throughout. Each one had its own distinct flavour, from creamy chocolate notes to caramel biscuit sweetness, but they all shared that freshly baked texture that makes a good stuffed cookie so satisfying. Our favourite was either the kinder or twix!😍

A few seconds in the microwave took them to another level !!! Warm, soft and perfectly gooey in the middle 🤤

The brownies were rich, fudgy and intensely chocolatey, making the perfect addition to the box.

🍗 WING SOCIETY 🐔 [Invite]

We simply cannot and will not stop raving about the best fried chicken we’ve ever tried!😮‍💨🔥

After visiting in their Lisburn Road store last week, we were invited down to their stall in to sample some more of their menu😉

This time we tried their platter for one:

🍗 3x Tenders (Although I think we got one extra👀).
🪽 8x Buffalo Wings.
🍟 Seasoned Fries.
🥕Slaw.

Extras:

🧀 Hot Honey Mozzarella Block (Check the cheese pull).

We actually ended up sharing this between 3 people😨 It might not look like much, but believe me, it’s some serious packing🥵 The crispy Nashville dry rub on these tenders is insane, have had a crispy coating like it anywhere else 👏🏻

Gutted we won’t be back in Belfast till November, otherwise we’d be here every week🤯 But if you are planning a trip anytime soon, or are a local, please make sure you add this one to your list 🙌🏻

🥪 AMELIA’S BELFAST 🍟 [Invite]

Is this the CHEESIEST toastie in Belfast?! 🤯🧀

When the cheese pull looks this good, you already know you’re onto a winner 🥇🙌🏻

Tucked away inside Blackstaff Mill, we finally got ourselves down to after hearing the hype for months and honestly, before we even went, one thing kept getting said over and over again: there’s nowhere else in Belfast doing loaded chips quite like Amelia’s. Known for their viral Birria toastie, proper loaded chips and big comfort-food flavours, this hidden gem has quietly built a serious reputation in the city 🏙️

And after trying it for ourselves? We completely get the hype 😮‍💨

First up… the Birria toastie 🤤
Slow-cooked braised beef, melted cheese, toasted sourdough and that rich dipping consommé on the side… WOW. This thing was absolutely unreal. And can we just take a moment for that cheese pull 😍🧀 Just look at that picture! Crispy golden sourdough on the outside, ridiculously tender beef inside and the dipping broth just took it to another level. One of those bites where you instantly know the hype was justified🥵😱

We also tried the taco chips loaded with pork mince, cheese and taco sauce and honestly, the rumours weren’t wrong 👀How are these chips SO crispy on the outside but still fluffy in the middle?!😮‍💨 I genuinely haven’t had chips like it. Proper chunky chips with an unreal crunch, loaded up generously and packed with flavour.

We also tucked into one of their wraps, which was packed full and seriously tasty ! But if it’s your first visit, I’m telling you now… that Birria toastie is NON-NEGOTIABLE 😅

Safe to say, Amelia’s absolutely delivered. Hidden gem? Viral hype? 100% deserved👏🏻 🔥

🍔 SMASH BROS - BELFAST 🍗 [INVITE]

🚨 BELFAST… WHAT IN THE BURGER MADNESS IS THIS?! 🤯🍔

If ridiculously loaded burgers, wild flavour combinations and bang for your buck is what you are looking for….then inside needs to be firmly on your radar 👀🍔 Known for stacking burgers sky-high with bold flavours and over-the-top creations, these guys have built a reputation for serving up some of the craziest burgers in the city 😮‍💨

Here’s what was in this platter:

🍔 The Beef & Bird Burger - Double smashed beef patties, double cheese, crispy fried chicken, crispy onions & pepper sauce.
🍗 Buffalo Chicken Wings
🍟 Truffle & Parmesan Fries.

Now let’s talk flavours… because WOW 🤤🔥
The Beef & Bird Burger was absolute carnage in the best way possible 😮‍💨 The crispy smashed beef patties brought that unreal charred flavour, the fried chicken added the perfect crunch, whilst the pepper sauce tied everything together with a rich, creamy kick. As you can probably already tell, this one was a nightmare to eat (but in a good way)😂 This thing was the size of my head, I couldn’t get my mouth around it to take a proper bite😅 But when you do, the flavours all come together PERFECTLY!😍

To pair this monstrous burger with buffalo wings and truffle and Parmesan fries, could you actually ask for a better platter?🤯

We know a fair bit about the burger scene in South Wales, so we were curious to find the best burgers in Belfast👀 I know is the first we’ve tried, but they’ve set the bar EXTREMELY HIGH, we can’t wait to get on the hunt for more🍔

🍕 IGLOO PIZZA CO. PORTRUSH ❄️

Could this be the most unique food truck around? 👀

Well, it might just be. took home the award for Best Looking Food Trailer at the UK Street Food Awards 2023, thanks to their incredible custom-built wood-fired pizza oven! Built just outside Florence, Italy, this one-of-a-kind oven is installed right inside their trailer, and it’s seriously impressive! 🇮🇹 🔥

There’s just something about a wood-fired pizza oven that a gas oven simply can’t replicate 🤯 The intense heat creates that signature lightly charred, blistered crust with a subtle smoky flavour that takes pizza to another level. Fast-cooked to perfection, you get that ideal balance of crispy base, airy crust, and beautifully melted toppings. Proper artisan pizza done right 🙌🏻🍕

We went for the nduja, hot honey & salami pizza, with their homemade truffle mayo on the side. It genuinely blew my mind that these guys are serving pizzas of this quality from a van, something many restaurants still struggle to achieve! 😱

It’s honestly criminal that people are heading to the chain pizza restaurant less than 50 metres away and paying double the price for pizzas that aren’t even half as good 🤯

North Coast people, do yourselves a favour and get yourselves over to ! 🍕
