But our founder, John Godden, has been in the business for nearly two decades (longer if you count his first business collecting, cleaning and selling Cuttlefish to pet shops at the young age of 16). By his mid-twenties he had worked his way up the ranks from filleter to buyer to sales manager. By that point he also had his own ideas on how the business should be run. He moved to Cornwall to be cl
oser to the source of our beautiful produce and Flying Fish was born. Thanks to hard work and hard-won expertise, we have grown from a one-man band into an the company we are today. Now we serve hundreds of incredible customers, including many Michelin-starred chefs and restaurants. Over the last ten years plenty of people have advised us to diversify into other foods but we’ve stuck to what we’re good at and grown our business by improving all we do. We’ve recently been invited to join the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and we’re well on our way to being accredited by SALSA as well. We’ve also been Highly Commended in Restaurant Magazine’s Chefs’ Choice Awards and other notable industry awards for several years running. Stamps of approval such as these are fantastic but it’s the kind words of our customers that makes all the years of hard work and obsessing over every detail worth it.
