When it comes to wastewater discharge, NIEA guidance encourages considering discharge to ground where site conditions allow.

But going to ground doesn't simply mean installing a traditional soakaway.

There are a range of land-based solutions that can be considered depending on the site, ground conditions, available area and discharge requirements, including:

💧 Pumped percolation areas
💧 Drip dispersal systems
💧 Reed bed systems
💧 Gravity-fed percolation areas
And a range of other site-specific solutions

Every site is different, so the right solution depends on factors such as ground conditions, hydraulic loading, available land and the required level of treatment.

🚧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙐𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚 🚧

We’re pleased to share the start of a new wastewater treatment project in Co. Monaghan.

The project will involve the installation of a reed bed wastewater treatment system, providing an effective and sustainable treatment solution designed to meet the tight discharge requirements set by the local council.

Our team is now on site and work is officially underway. We’ll be sharing regular updates throughout the project, following its progress from the initial works from design to completion.

🌱 Celebrating our summer placement student, Micheala!

This summer at Viltra, we had the pleasure of welcoming Micheala to the team as she completed her summer placement with us.

Currently studying Environmental Management at Queen's University Belfast, Micheala is developing a strong understanding of the environmental and planning sectors through modules including Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Planning, Health and Wellbeing, Urban and Rural Planning, and Geography.

Her time at Viltra gave her the opportunity to take what she has been learning at university and experience how this knowledge is applied in a real-world business environment. Throughout her placement, she gained valuable insight into our work, developed new skills, and experienced different aspects of the business.

We really enjoyed having Micheala as part of the Viltra team and seeing her enthusiasm and willingness to learn throughout the summer and would welcome her back any time in the future!
