๐ค Why are microgreens called โnutrient denseโ?
โNutrient denseโ simply means a food contains a lot of vitamins, minerals, and beneficial compounds in a small amount of that food.
Microgreens are harvested at a very young stage of growth โ just after the first leaves appear. At this stage, the plant is packed with the nutrients it needs to grow into a mature vegetable. That means tiny greens can contain surprisingly high levels of nutrients compared to their size. ๐คฉ
Many microgreens are rich in vitamins such as:
โ Vitamin C
โ Vitamin E
โ Vitamin K
โ Beta-carotene (which the body converts into Vitamin A)
They also provide important minerals including:
โ Potassium
โ Iron
โ Zinc
โ Magnesium
โ Calcium
Microgreens are also packed with antioxidants and plant compounds that support overall health. ๐ช
Why does this matter?
Modern diets are often high in calories but low in nutrients. Adding nutrient-dense foods to meals helps our bodies get more of the goodness we need for energy, immunity, bone health, and overall wellbeing โ without needing huge portions.
The best part?
Microgreens are one of the easiest ways to add extra nutrition to everyday meals. Sprinkle them on to sandwiches, salads, soups, eggs, pasta, or wraps for a fresh burst of flavour and colour. ๐
Small greens. Big nutrition. ๐
