It all began after 20 years of flying aeroplanes, Richard, not one to settle for the quiet life, became the owner of seven acres of Devonshire countryside. You may be aware that Devonshire countryside is very seld
om level, so planting 1200 apple trees on these slopes would perhaps not have been advisable, Richard however took to the test and after 2 years of hard graft and a few sprained wrists, the same 1200 trees stood where nothing but brambles stood before. And so the wait began, apple trees take 4-5 years before you see any appreciable quantity of fruit worthy of an investment in plant and machinery, but the day finally came when several tons of English apples were ready to be picked and pressed! Next came 1000’s of bottles of apple juice and that is just the start. Next came oranges and mangos all housed in the comfort of the Portuguese sunshine! After a few years of much the same Richard and Sue were after something a little different, something that required a little less attention than grueling days pruning in the English winter – next came the Homebrew Centre; something that provided us with a business that was conducted indoors, undercover and in the warm! Wines, beers and spirits encompassed a challenge that could prove to be irresistible to the customer. Beers, Ciders and Wines made in your home in a matter of weeks, tasting as good if not better than those that you can buy and for a fraction of the price. Fives years down the line the Homebrew Centre come MillTop and now BIY is still in full swing and we are here to provide you with everything you need for homebrew perfection. Happy Brewing,
