With the wintry showers coming over several times per hour, the lambs are keen to seek out any nearby shelters.
First-timer Etsy is due any day now, so that will wrap up lambing for ‘26.

Festive greetings to you all, fromThe Barony Flock.

Meanwhile… in the Craft tent… Ricky managed to pick up the Flora Stuart trophy for Supreme Champion fleece.
It was formerly worn by Red Hill Dusty, - bought from Justine Williams at Carlisle S&S ‘24.

….and just to wrap up our Show season… - a short hop across to Wigtown for our local show
yesterday.
Philippa Barnes was judging both Ryelands and Coloureds and gave ewe lamb Ferdi the cup for Best Female.
The quaich for Best CR Male went to our tup lamb Finn McCool.
It was a ‘Boy’s day ‘ when overall Champion and Reserve were called, with shearling ram Earle in a supporting role to young Finn.
Many thanks to those who keep the classes going at Wigtown, and to Philippa for her judging on the day.
As judging finished, we were surprised to meet up with a holidaying Nathan Thorowgood & family. He runs the ‘Animac’ company, which specialised in horse and calf coats when we first met at Wigtown Show a few years back.
On seeing Ricky’s natty Black Watch tartan show coats, Nathan figured that sheep coats would be a good addition to the Animac range (they now outstrip the horse products!)
The latest joint design prototype , aimed at slender sheep and goats will soon be in production (not for Ryelands though!)🫢😁

After a busy week involving judging the Coloured Ryelands at Ryedale and Nantwich Shows… - it was our turn to be judged again on Saturday, this time at The Scottish National (Dumfries) with Matthew Pink making his selections.
After running through the classes, we managed to get four into the Championship (Aged Ram, Ram Lamb, Ewe and Ewe Lamb.)
Young Flintstone managed it again on the day !!! - with ewe lamb Fendi making it a ‘junior double’- as Reserve Scottish Champion.
Many thanks to Matthew for making the trip across from Yorkshire , and to the Scottish Ryeland Group for laying on the welcome refreshments.

The early start and 4-hour run over to Kelso for the Border Union Show on Saturday proved to be worthwhile, with 3 class wins and young Flintstone ending up as Champion of the 23 Coloureds present.
It seemed to be a popular event, with a packed show field and 28 breeds of sheep to view.
Many thanks to Maddy Welford for her judging on the day and congratulations to Susan Bryden who was Reserve with her shearling ram.
