The second half of the year brought with it sunbathing cattle (and chickens), not to mention hay-making. With the hay cut we were able to test our little muck spreader, which worked a treat once we got the hang of it.

We also painted all sides of the barn (seen here part finished) and were privileged enough to be involved in helping release some rescue hedgehogs.

As the days began to draw in, we also noticed the wood store wasn't quite as full as it perhaps ought to be!

The lambs grew quickly in the warm, dry late spring. Fergus tried his best to learn to drive but couldn't find the right seat.

We tried an experiment to let the orchard grow unkempt and wild, then let the sheep in to tidy up for a day. They certainly seemed happy!

Inside, butteries were baked for the first time (and were delicious), but at the other end of the farm we ended up with several cattle breaking through into the neighbour's woods. The grass is always greener, as they say!

Regular visitors will have noticed the new egg hut at the end of the drive.

Before we knew it, the days grew longer and the sun started to share its warmth. We began work afresh, laying a significant chunk of new path in the chicken area to improve accessibility and turning over ground for new projects.

We had to muck out the byre to clean things up ready for lambing.

We also acquired a crop sprayer so we could experiment with more effectively applying organic fertiliser to the fields (we didn't even squabble over who got to try it first!)

As another year leaves us, it's time to look back at some of the memories of 2025.

Once again it's been a productive and busy year, with lots of work done and new skills learned.

It started off cold but fortunately everything kept working and all the animals were well fed!

Improvements we'd made to tackle troublesome mud through winter came into their own as they were properly put to the test for the first time.
