So a while back a guy ask me if I had a Gloucester bull I’d sell him….. i told him I had one, a pure bull but not pedigree. He said he didn’t mind as he wanted to cross breed on his Guernsey cows.
He requested a fertility test ….. so today was a new one on us as we tested Cheeky Jack for fertility…. I got the job of holding the electrode probe thingy…. He was remarkably quiet seeing as he hadn’t been in a crush before (my birthday shopping purchase) bit of a bad start as the vet said she needed access to his bits….. so after a bit of angle grinding a access hatch was created and a sample was taken! Great news he’s fertile ! The vet said he also has a good set on him too!!
So he’s off very soon to a new life in Kent!

Busy week this week ….. topped off by this little fella….. last calf of the 25/26 season by Julia … her first …. Meet Ernest …. He’ll get called Ernie I’m sure !

Went to check on the herd today…. I leave sticks by the gateways so I always have one…..well I did …..some # # # # has stolen it!!!! 😡🤬 it used to be leant against this post!!

Lovely present at the field tonight….
My old faithful Cow, Buttercup, calves her 8 calf….. this lovely cow is a twin …..her twin was a male….. mixed twins in cattle the females are called Freemartins and only 1% go on to breed, most never have calves….. I bought her back in 2016 and she’s been a real matriarch of the Shepherdswell herd …..she is one of the last Fenton herd females alive, a renowned herd from Cambridgeshire now no longer, this is her 7 heifer calf only ever having one bull calf ! Lovely calf too!! Billy keeps up his tradition of fathering Heifers…. Ive now had 8 calves by him and one was a male!!
