Chet Valley Vineyard and winery is a family run winery which welcomes visitors for vineyard tours and wine tastings in the season April until October and by appointment for bespoke tours at other times. We are located just 9 miles south of the fine city of Norwich and not far from the Norfolk Broads National park and the coast. We also offer accommodation amongst the vines at the Vine House a sing

le storey self catering cottage which sleeps up to 6 people. There are no steps or stairs in the property which has wide access doors and is very accessible and also dog friendly. In addition to vineyard tours and wine tastings we offer lunches on the balcony overlooking the vineyard and also vineyard picnics, we have a wine club and offer the opportunity to lease vines on our vineyard. We like to include our visitors in the vineyard activities throughout the seasons and particularly at harvest time in late September early October, when we pick our grapes, press them on site and start the fermentation process in our state of the art stainless steel tanks and Oak Barrels. We run special events at other times including Harvest celebrations in October, a celebration of St Martins day in November, and charity events at other times of the year. Our favourite charities include, Horatios garden, the EACH and VisionNorfolk.

Do you like oysters and sparkling wine? We have a large range of different sparkling wines on offer at Chet Valley Vineyard We’ve paired them with the gorgeous mussels that Thomas and Sarah from Brancaster Bay Shellfish produce and we’re planning dates for next year! Watch this space 👀🥂🍾

Oysters & Sparkling Wine 🦪🍾

Why does it work so well?

Sparkling wines typically have a yeast, bready flavour that add some depth to the pairing. The bubbles of champagne or a dry sparkling wine also provide a textural contrast against the smooth texture of oysters.

Research from the University of Copenhagen also found that the two contain complementary sets of umami flavors that act “synergistically” to enhance taste, working together harmoniously!

Have you tried this pairing before?

From Wine Cellar Door.

Johns harvest report from Chet Valley Vineyard is soon to follow!

Harvest 2023 is all in and while people always try to forecast, any producer will tell you that nothing can be taken for granted until the grapes are in the winery.

Now they are all in, what can we say? A single word to describe the overall impression of vintage 2023 would be BIG!

We started the year without too much frost once the buds had burst, there was not too much rain during flowering and just enough sun to get things ripened.

It hasn't been super-hot, so we may not get as much still wine as we got in 2018, the last year of exceptional quantities, although more producers are being positive about still wines and interested to experiment, which seems to be driving up the number of still wines available generally, although some of them will be small volume production.

There will be a whole lot of sparkling wine, too. Smart producers will also be holding some of the base wines back to build or add to their 'library' of wines for future blending, too. For some producers, this will be an ingredient for them to manage future consistency and for others, it will be a way to help them through the leaner years.

Now is a great time to get out to vineyards, chat with the people who show you around and taste lots of wine to work out which producer's style suits your taste preferences. When their wines are released in a few years' time, you'll know to stock up!
