Summer is over and the children are back at school. Are you now having to cope with those packed lunches and after school munchies. My two would always come home and head straight to find something to eat! Plenty to choose from on Wednesday mornings - sausage rolls, cheese and onion rolls, cheese scones, butterfly buns and lemon drizzle cake to name just a few. Last Bank Holiday of the year over and the end of summer. Schools are back end of the week and all the mums give a sigh of relief!! That's one bit of relief - the temperatures have dropped but we still need that rain. Our gardeners have been busy with their watering cans to keep you supplied with fresh vegetables - we even had some tomatoes last week! Unfortunately it appears everyone's Victoria plum trees have failed this year but we did have some damson last week and I'm sure there will be more to come along with plenty of cooking apples. This week's post is a little different - I am asking for your help. Reepham Country Market comes under the umbrella Of Norfolk Country Markets - and they are in desperate need of a new Treasurer. If we don't find someone before the end of the year, all the Country Markets in Norfolk will have to close. We should be back to normal this week with all our cooks producing their normal range of bakes. Our gardeners will be fighting the drought to bring you as many fresh vegetables as they can and there should still be some fruit as well. No lasagnes this week as Sue is busy getting ready for the Reepham Artists and Makers Showcase being held in The Bircham Centre, Reepham Saturday 18th July to Sunday 19th, 10am to 4pm. There will be plenty of other savouries to tempt you as well as all our other goodies. Fresh vegetables are starting to build now, plenty of courgettes and cucumbers, beetroot and spinach and the first of the French beans this week. Summer is moving on and the fresh, homegrown vegetables are starting to arrive on Wednesday mornings. Last week we had courgettes, cucumbers, spinach and lettuce (there may have been more but they had been snapped up before I got there!).
