We weren’t sure how many people to expect at our community meal last Sunday - January is often a quieter month - especially given the frosty weather recently.

So, we were very happy to welcome 54 local people for dinner who together helped to raise £151, which will go towards our annual donation to local food banks.

On the menu this month we had potato & onion soup, broccoli soup, mushroom pie, mashed potato, braised cabbage, roasted parsnips, coleslaw, two vegetable curries (thanks to our newest cook, Igor), grape crumble, chocolate orange cake and cupcakes.

Thank you to the brilliant volunteers who this month were: Carol, Clare, Corrina, Eileen, Ginny, Helen, Igor, Imran, Kayleigh, Liz, Lynda, Mark, Nick and Oksana.

The next meal is on Sunday 8 February at 6pm, as always at Sherwood Methodist Church. We hope to see you there!

Sadly we didn’t manage to get a photo of the full Sharing Sherwood volunteer team on Sunday (we were too busy!), but here are many of us, to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

We also wanted to take a moment to recognise (and thank) all the volunteers who keep Sharing Sherwood going, month after month:

CAROL – a volunteer from day one (12 years ago!), Carol will be well known to anyone who attends Sharing Sherwood as chief server and soup maker extraordinaire. Her frittata is also a firm favourite!

OKSANA – our resident Pudding Queen, who bakes creative cakes, crumbles and puddings which are always a hit. This month a guest enjoyed Oksana’s carrot cake so much it was suggested that she deserves an award!

ANIA – another volunteer who has been with Sharing Sherwood from the very start, Ania’s coleslaw is very popular, and we are always grateful for the work she does behind the scenes keeping the cupboard and freezer in order.

NICK L – you’ll usually find Nick juggling making a pasta sauce or curry (or sometimes both) and attempting to manage the (very busy) oven. Nick also does lots of the admin in the background to help keep Sharing Sherwood going.

GINNY – Sharing Sherwood’s true unsung hero, Ginny toils away at the sink to make sure that all the pots, dishes and cutlery are kept spotlessly clean.

IMRAN – our most talented cook, Imran’s delicious curries and dhals are truly legendary. He’s also the man to call when we need to chop up a massive pumpkin!

TINA – whether chopping vegetables, keeping the kitchen tidy or microwaving a mountain of Christmas pudding, Tina’s hard work helps to keep the kitchen running smoothly.

CHLOE – the first person you meet when you arrive at Sharing Sherwood, Chloe always provides a warm welcome (and lays the tables, writes the menus and counts the money).

LYNDA – the other member of our fabulous Front of House team (and also frequently an extra pair of hands in the kitchen), Lynda also does the essential job of collecting the food from FareShare every month.

HELEN – one of our most committed regulars, Helen is often responsible for making garlic bread or salad (or sometimes both) and then serving guests with Carol. And she always stays until the end to clean up!

LIZ – like her sister Helen, Liz is also an extremely helpful all-rounder who cooks, serves and tidies. Liz also does the recycling, any extra shopping that’s needed, and takes away excess vegetables for her rabbits!

NICK B – whether setting up tables, preparing vegetables or cleaning up, Nick is another very valuable member of the team.

MARK – a regular vegetable chopper and our treasurer, who keeps our finances in order (and recently made the payments to local food banks).

And thank you to everyone else who has been part of the team this year: our three Duke of Edinburgh volunteers (Agnes, Alec and Pippa), Eileen, Corrina, Jan, Ian, Igor, Jude, Clare and Emma.

You are all amazing 😊🙏

Thank you so much to the 75+ people who came to eat at our Christmas community meal on Sunday - together you helped to raise £200.50!

Particular thanks to the fabulous Sherwood Chorus who sang some Christmas favourites (and a bonus Wombles song in honour of Sharing Sherwood!) which helped to make the atmosphere so special.

At the meal we also announced that we have just made our 2025 donation. With funds raised over the last 12 months, we have been able to donate £40 to each of 24 food banks in Nottingham. £960 in total!

Thank you to everybody who has attended our monthly meals in 2025 - you have all helped to make this happen. You have also contributed to saving approximately 1 tonne of surplus supermarket food from going to waste!

Huge thanks as always to our amazing volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible. The fantastic team this month was: Ania, Carol, Chloe, Ginny, Helen, Ian, Igor, Imran, Liz, Lynda, Nick B, Nick L, Oksana and Tina. And thank you to our generous hosts - Sherwood Methodist Church.

Our next meal will be on Sunday 11 January - we hope to see you there.

Thank you to everybody who came to our November community meal at Sherwood Methodist Church last Sunday.

Next month is our Christmas meal - Sunday 14 December at 6pm - and we are very pleased that once again we will be joined by Sherwood Chorus who will singing for their supper!
