Dragon Boat Festival is coming, and Aunty Ean is back in the kitchen! 🐲🛶

There’s nothing like the smell of freshly wrapped Teochew Bakzhang to bring back those home memories. Aunty Ean is busy preparing her signature zhang—made with love, tradition, and definitely 真材实料 (no skimping on the good stuff!).

Each bakzhang contains:

✨ Fragrant Glutinous Rice
✨ Tender Marinated Pork
✨ Rich Salted Egg Yolk
✨ Classic Black Eye Beans (Don't like beans? Just let us know, we can custom-make yours!)

🥢 Introducing Our Homemade Lobak / Ngo Hiang!

Crispy on the outside, juicy and flavour-packed on the inside — our Lobak is a traditional Chinese five-spice pork roll, lovingly wrapped in beancurd skin and pan-fried to perfection. 🌟

Perfect as a snack or side dish — and yes, it's handmade with 💯 care, just like how Ah Ma used to make it.

Best enjoyed with a dip of chilli sauce for that extra kick! 🌶️🔥

Every family has their own recipe — and Aunty Ean's version is one with a story.
When she was young, she used to cycle 10km to her aunty's house just to learn how to cook. After years of refining and improving the recipe , it’s become the delicious version we’re proud to share today. 🧡

🚫 Gu Chai Kuey (garlic chive dumplings) is temporarily unavailable as we’re unable to get fresh garlic chives from the oriental stores. We’ll bring it back as soon as it’s restocked!

🥟 Introducing Another Teochew Delight: Chai Kuey

Chai Kuey is a traditional steamed dumpling made with a delicate, translucent skin and filled with savoury goodness , typically jicama (mangkuang) or garlic chives (gu chai).

Back in the day, this was a beloved home-cooked dish, often made during ancestor worship festivals or family gatherings. According to Aunty Ean, her whole family would come together to prepare Chai Kuey for prayers. It was a true community effort , even during funerals, villagers would gather at the house and make Chai Kuey together as a sign of support and unity.

When our Teochew ancestors migrated to Malaysia in the 19th and early 20th centuries, they brought this meaningful dish with them . And now, Aunty Ean is sharing it right here in the UK.

Because jicama is quite pricey in the UK, we’ve substituted it with swede. Honestly, you wouldn’t even notice the difference! Aunty Ean has mastered the swap perfectly.

We’re also on the lookout for more imported garlic chives, but stock is currently low in most oriental shops around Nottingham. Fingers crossed they restock soon so we can keep making more of these delicious dumplings!
