Although it’s not fun collecting eggs in the rain, the ducks love it! We are glad to have got all our OSR put in the ground last night, this rain should give it a good start. The hens are the only group on the farm not a fan of the rain, they saw the weather and decided it’s best to stay inside.

🚜That’s harvest complete for another year! This year we finished and shut the grain store doors on the 1st of August, by far the earliest we have ever finished! The dry weather caused everything to die out fast, however luckily our yields were about what we expected. Our wheat will go for making bread and feed our chickens, while our linseed has many uses. Time to start preparing for next season!

Fresh plums now available in the shop🔴
On the farm we have a small orchard full of plum trees. They receive no fertiliser and no pesticides, and from now until they are gone you can buy them!

If Lodge Farm isn’t busy enough this time of year, we also had to prepare for the arrival of our turkeys this week at just one day old. They will all spend a few weeks under the heat lamps (although they don’t seem to be needed at the minute!).

🥚🥚Our hens and ducks homes are portable, meaning we move them around so they always have fresh grass.

Yesterday was the longest day of the year, which is great if your a hen or duck because it means even longer outside every day. However, we will be glad to finally start going to bed slightly earlier every day as we have to shut them up every night to keep them safe!
