We don’t often sell single cuts of lamb but we do have a rare offering!

Would anyone be interested in a bone in shoulder of our old season lamb (hogget) £20/kg, around 2kg weight, ready for collection next Monday. Absolutely delicious!!

Edit- only one shoulder joint left to pre-reserve; £20/kg not sure on weight just yet but likely around 2kg, can be halved if preferred and ordered today.

We are taking pre orders for our old season lamb (hogget), which will be ready for collection in the 27th of July.

As always, our lambs are a mixture of traditional, slow maturing breeds, and have been grass fed on pasture at our little Rutland small holding. We pride ourselves in high welfare standards for all our animals. The flavour of its meat speaks for itself with several loyal customers awaiting its announcement every year.

Our hens spend their days wandering around the orchard and fields here on our little smallholding in Stretton, scratching about, causing chaos and generally living their best lives. They're all ridiculously spoilt (I am fully aware I'm the mad chicken lady) and they repay us with the most gorgeous bright orange-yolked eggs.

Thank you to all of our wonderful customers. We’ve sold over 400kg of OSB pork, which is definitely a record for our tiny small holding. There’s a little left to reserve:

I don’t like to bring political debates to Facebook however, following the footage of non stunned slaughter that has been circulated recently, I feel I need to speak out and ensure members of the public are fully informed. Currently in the UK non stun slaughter for religious reasons is completely legal, meaning that millions of animals a year are slaughtered fully conscious. This is a fact I was ignorant to until recently and the video I watched was highly disturbing. Non stun slaughter was at one time banned but this has been lifted.

When this issue was raised the government’s response was as follows:

“The government encourages the highest standards of animal welfare at slaughter and would prefer all animals to be stunned before slaughter. However, we respect the rights of Jews and Muslims to eat meat prepared in accordance with their religious beliefs. The government therefore has no plans to ban slaughter without stunning.”

To avoid causing offence we have lowered our animal welfare standards. Much of this meat is unlabelled and sold in our supermarkets and restaurant. A nation of animal lovers have allowed our animal welfare standards to be lowered to avoid offence. This is not about religion. Nor is it about vegetarianism. We should have the highest welfare standards possible, maintained as a nation of animal lovers because modern practice allows slaughter to involve minimal suffering.

We go to great lengths to ensure our animals live happy healthy lives and we use a local trusted abattoir that does not allow this barbaric practice, but the same cannot be said for animals sold at market or sent to other abattoirs across the country. If this news has resonated with you please sign the petition regardless of whether you eat meat or not; the slaughter of animals for meat will continue and it’s up to us to insist that animals are protected during this process.

Religious slaughter may require the animal to be slaughtered whilst alive, which is in line with their religious beliefs. In relation to this, stunning needs to be recoverable. Normal slaughter uses a bolt gun that renders the animal brain dead and unable to regain consciousness.

Our first batch of pork from our Oxford Sandy and Black pigs will be available in around a month and we are taking pre orders now.

Our pigs are outdoor reared in natural habitats. High welfare is always our priority- we rear our own animals for meat so that we know they have lived happy and healthy lives.

Oxford Sandy and Blacks are a rare, traditional native breed, so this meat is an unusual find. The taste is, by all accounts, delicious and we usually sell out quickly. Please place orders early to avoid disappointment, however we are actively seeking new customers this year due to a larger supply than usual, so please spread the word.

Pork boxes are sold in 5kg, (£80) 10kg (£150) and 20kg (£240) selection boxes, which can be butchered to order as long as a mix of cuts. Can also provide sausages, gammon and bacon as part of or extra.

🥚 Goose eggs for sale! 🥚

Bird flu restrictions are lifted as of the 9th of Apr, which is great news for chickens and also for free range egg supply. Our flock have remained free range throughout, which prevented us from selling our eggs, but with the ban lifted we can supply them once more.

Geese only have a short laying season, during spring. The eggs are huge and rich, perfect for making pasta, cakes, custard and ice cream.
