Family is at the heart of everything here at The White Horse.

Andy and his son Drew; two of the faces behind our little Rutland pub, where family roots run through just about everything we do.

When Andy and Ruth, together with their sons Drew and Carter, took on The White Horse, they weren’t simply taking on a pub. They were becoming custodians of a building that has been part of Stretton since at least 1721, and of a place that this village had fought incredibly hard not to lose.

After around 18 months in darkness, it has been wonderful to see these old rooms filled again with people, conversation, good food and laughter. We can’t thank you all enough.

The White Horse is proudly family run, but its story belongs to a much bigger family too…the community around us!

From the villagers who helped clear the gardens and clean the building, to those who quite literally helped build our bar, this pub has been brought back to life by an extraordinary amount of local love and support.

And this Saturday, we get to celebrate that properly. 🥂 So please come and join us!

At 12 noon on Saturday 22nd August, please join us for the Grand Reopening Ceremony of The White Horse at Stretton, formerly The Jackson Stops Inn.

We are delighted to be welcoming MP Alicia Kearns, the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Sarah Furness, and the High Sheriff of Rutland Susannah Fish alongside a ceremonial opening of a beer firkin and live music from local vocalist Rachel.

It feels rather fitting that a pub which began life as The White Horse, acquired another name almost by accident, and has now returned home to its original identity should begin its next chapter surrounded by the people who helped make it possible.

The White Horse rides again… and this time, she has her name back. 🤍🐴😉
