How do you like your pork pie? I like mine either with piccalilli or a mixed salad with salad cream. My pork pies achieved 2 gold stars at the Great Taste Awards.

They are on sale at Stamford market tomorrow and Grantham market on Saturday. As it’s a hot week forecast have plenty of:

There has been a lot of media posts on the way animals are slaughtered in this country and how they get from farm to fork. 90% of pork in this country is slaughtered using CO2 asphyxiation which means pigs are killed in quantities in a gas chamber. I personally do not like the thought of that. I would like to clarify that my animals go to slaughter in Sutton Bonington, near Nottingham which takes about an hour by road and my car towing a trailer driven by myself. It is on the university campus where they train the vets. My animals are unloaded straight away and stunned individually with tongs either side of the head which leaves them unconscious immediately. No waiting as they only take a limited amount of animals in timed slots. Morrisons are the only supermarket that have their own abbatior in Lincolnshire and they are cutting the amount of pigs they take in due to rising costs and cheap pork coming in from abroad. Hence my photo from pork sold at Tesco. Those poor pigs would have been loaded onto a big commercial trailer and transported for at least 5-6 hours as the distance between Holland and Germany is 443 kilometres. So if you are buying your meat from a supermarket look at the labels to see where it has come from and how many road miles it has travelled before you buy it. Also look to see if it has had products added to it to increase the weight.

I’ve had a nightmare with suppliers this week sending the wrong orders and DPD not delivering. So I am really low on large pork pies and sausages. I recommend reserving a large pork pie and sausages if you want any for the weekend. I have a few packs of Lincolnshire and French Herb & Garlic and will make some Cracked pepper shortly. The good news is I have pork schnitzels, gammon steaks, steak burgers, a really good selection of fresh pork, Soanes free range chicken, venison and venison sausages, hogget and beef. This weeks pie is steak & ale. Pop down to Stamford market on Friday between 8-2 and Grantham Market 8-2 on Saturday. I look forward to seeing you.

The piglets are loving the sun

Gammon is not just for Christmas! A 1kilo joint can easily feed a family of 6 with some leftovers for sandwiches. I have a couple of joints available tomorrow at Stamford market along with some gammon steaks. I will also have:

* Soanes free range chickens and thighs
* Award winning bacon, pork pies and pork chops
* Burgers
