The Hill House Llama herd is based on the edge of the Mendips in Somerset. It comprises of a collection of llamas who have been re-homed from owners who can no longer provide the care and attention that these exquisite creatures require, along with a few home bred cria.

Trying not to feel too happy for the rain as we’ve got guests staying in The Old Coach House and I don’t want rain to spoil their break, but the fields do need water desperately.

Think I've been out in the sun too long!

Whilst pooper scooping the llama beans earlier and observing the llamas, I've found new roles for 2 of our girls as lookalike actors 🤣

Some moments are just too lovely not to share 😍🦙

Llamas can naturally be quite flighty animals, so it’s fairly unusual for one to feel relaxed enough to let a new visitor actually sit down beside them. Our Hattie loves meeting our holiday let guests though and recently enjoyed a peaceful moment in the afternoon sunshine with one of our younger visitors.

I wonder what they were chatting about?

It’s a girl! 🩷. Thank you llamas!

How am I the last to know that if your courgette plants aren’t happy - they grow boy flowers - and boys don’t turn into courgettes 🤭 When you get everything right for them, courgettes grow girl flowers and we get courgettes 🩷

After dropping lots of boy flowers, I moved the plants from the onions to the sweetcorn and the beans, bedded them in on a pile of llama beans 💩 and voila! We have baby courgettes.

The rest of the veggie plants are looking great too, all grown on a bed of 🦙💩
If anyone local wants any 💩 for their 🥦🥕🌽🍆🥒 - let me know and you can come and pick your own 😊

There’s always one!

Everyone else is in the shade, sheltering from the sun - and Felix is in the middle of my nettles, eating them 🙈. I wouldn’t mind, but I wanted to harvest them later on to spin the nettle fibres 🤯

Hope everyone’s coping ok in this heat 🥵

For the first time ever (in 25 years), we are closed due to the weather. And we’ve had some weather in that time! A hen party in the snow, walks in the rain, in hailstorms, during thunderstorms but never before due to excessive heat 🌞

Apologies again to all those who’ve had their experiences delayed or refunded, but animal welfare has to take precedence.

I’m checking on them all regularly and so far, so good - in fact I think they’re all quite enjoying a more leisurely day in the shade 🤭

Well, that paddling pool didn’t last long 😂. Tinker and Diego weren’t so good at sharing and the base of the pool got ripped 🥴. They looked so disappointed that I found some old tarps, lined Ollie and Dave’s dust bath and filled that with water instead.

Llamas are fuming! Alpacas are happy again!
