As we come to the end of Carers' Week 2026, we'd like to shout-out Emma Martin once more, a member of our team who heads up the weekly Parent & Carer Support Group and SENsory Nest Playgroup, for her fantastic achievement of an Unsung Hero Award at the CarersUK Awards 2026 🏆

Emma told us:
"A couple of weeks ago, I had a very unexpected but lovely surprise. I received a phone call from Carers UK letting me know that I had been nominated for one of their “Unsung Hero” awards. It was a big surprise to me but really nice to be recognised in this way, especially for something I feel so passionate about—supporting carers through volunteering and helping raise awareness through TV and radio campaigns.

I was invited to London to receive the award, and it turned into a lovely day. From having some time to myself on my train journey, to enjoying a yummy lunch and meeting some very lovely people. One of the highlights was also a short break through Room to Reward, which offers hotel stays to hidden heroes, such a thoughtful and meaningful gesture.

As Carers Week (8–14 June) closes, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on how important it is to recognise the incredible work carers do every day. Across the country, individuals and organisations come together during this week to raise awareness and help build more carer-friendly communities.

This is something that means a lot to me personally. Through the parent/carer support group I run at Made-Well, I see first-hand how valuable it is to have a space where people feel understood, supported, and not alone. Carers give so much of themselves, and it’s vital that we continue to create communities that support and uplift them in return."

We're all very proud, and so grateful to have Emma as a vital part of our team, working to build a carer-friendly community! 🌈

Emma’s Parent and Carer Support Group runs as a free drop in each Thursday from 1pm-3pm, whilst the SENsory Nest Playgroup meets on Thursday mornings from 10:30 (£5 booking fee to pay online in advance)

As parents, we all want our children to feel happy, confident and capable. But for some families, the school journey isn't straightforward... 🌈

You might have watched your child lose confidence over time. Perhaps they've become anxious, struggled to attend school, found it difficult to make friends, or simply felt that they don't fit into the environments available to them. When you're living it every day, it can be heartbreaking. You know what your child is capable of, but finding the right support can feel like an uphill battle.

At Made-Well, we've spent years supporting people with a wide range of needs to develop confidence, independence and a stronger sense of self. Through our new Alternative Provision programme, we're creating a space where young people can learn, grow and succeed in ways that work for them.

Set in the Devon countryside, our provision combines therapeutic support with meaningful activities such as animal care, gardening, outdoor learning, crafts and practical skills. More importantly, it offers young people the chance to experience success, build trusted relationships and discover strengths they may not even realise they have.

We've seen first-hand how the right environment can help someone who is withdrawn begin to engage, how a young person who lacks confidence can start believing in themselves, and how small steps can grow into life-changing progress.

If you're wondering whether a different approach to learning and support could benefit your child, we'd love to meet you. We work with young people aged 8-25 with ECHPs.
Join us at our Alternative Provision Open Day on Friday 3rd July to see our setting, meet the team and find out more about how Made-Well could support your young person.

Feeling peckish? Why not try Made-Well Meals on Wheels?!😋

Made-Well is proud to support - which runs from 8th to 14th June, raising awareness for all that unpaid carers do for their loved ones, and how we can all help to face the challenges that being an unpaid carer can create. This year's theme is 'Building Carer Friendly Communities', which is something we are glad to offer here at Made-Well 💕

On Thursdays, we host the Parent-Carer Support Group, which provides FREE support, advice and simply open chats and conversation about the joys and challenges of being a parent, carer or both - whether you're currently looking after a little one, caring for an adult, or you previously were a parent/carer and want to offer your own expertise. Also, we have the SENsory Nest Playgroup, which offers 0-5s the chance to develop their social skills in a safe, nurturing play environment for £5 a session. Both groups are facilitated by Emma Martin, who kindly shared her experience of being a Parent Carer with us. Emma is a qualified Early Years Practitioner and SEN specialist with over 25 years of experience.

You can also visit us! Our site is open 9-4, 365 days a year, giving the public FREE access to our wheelchair accessible garden, animal barn, playground and toilet facilities (including a Changing Places toilet). Additionally, we have a cafe that opens 9-4 daily in summer (subject to change in the colder months), as well as a Sensory Room with gantry hoist accessible from just £5!

So, this Carers' Week, if you're looking for a friendly community for support or a day out, Made-Well is here 🌈☺️
