We’ve got something new to share with you & rather than just letting it quietly appear around the café, we wanted to give it the moment it deserves.
We’ve been working with an old friend of ours, who was once a big part of the team here too, to bring this idea to life. She knows the café well & knows many of the people in it, so there was something rather lovely about asking her to draw her own version of the world we all know. The result is now making its way onto the back of our new t-shirts, onto the menus & over time, into little corners around the café.
It’s a collection of little scenes from café life. The more you look, the more familiar it becomes. There are people who have been coming here for years, people who are still in every week, people who have worked here & people who have simply become part of the place over time. There are faces from our past too; people who were an important part of this café & who still are in ways that don’t necessarily need explaining.
Of course, the food & coffee are at the centre of what we do. We care about them enormously; what comes out of our kitchen & what goes into our cups. We care about the details, the standards & the way things are done. But the reason any of it matters is because of what happens around it.
People meeting for coffee. Friends catching up. Staff who have become friends. Groups coming in every Tuesday without fail. The people who come in on the best days & those who need somewhere familiar on the difficult ones. The conversations, celebrations, first coffees, last coffees, passing hellos & long-awaited reunions - all the little moments that somehow become part of your memories.
It’s seeing generations of the same family around a table; watching children grow up. People who have left their mark on the place, whether they worked here, ate here, loved someone who worked here or simply became part of the life of the café by being here.
That is the bit we wanted to capture.
So, here it is. Our celebration of, not just the café, but the life that happens in it 🤍
