🌈 Alpacas come in so many different colours and patterns 🌈

Alpacas can come in 22 different shades, with a number of different patterns!
We genuinely love all colours and patterns. Using most of our fleece on farm, having a range of colours is so important to us. Nothing is as beautiful to handspin into a natural tweed effect as an Appaloosa, or naturally bright as a golden fawn.

From left to right we have Penny, Pearl, Constellation and Foxy. All special girls in their own right.

⭐️ Welcome to Natterjack Loro Pianna ⭐️

You can tell we get into the full swing of birthing when our names start getting more and more dramatic! But this name was on our endless names list, and instantly clicked. Half dry here and already covered in an abundance of curly white fleece.
Loro is cria number 13, and what a big boy for the supposed unlucky number 🍀

💎🌹Rose Quartz thinks upright ears are overrated 🌹💎

Whilst being a good sized and perfectly on time, Quartz has a few signs of being dysmature (on time but slightly underdeveloped). She is gaining weight like a trooper and meeting all her mile stones, but has slightly wobbly legs and floppy ears.
Everyday they go a bit more upright, so we’re enjoying the ‘floppy ear stage’ whilst it lasts.

Some breeders would tape these ears to be on the safe side, but we find they stand up perfectly fine on their own 🥰

🎰 Welcome to Casino Royale 🎰

Born to very experienced dam, Inca Garland, this little guy was in the very best of hands when learning to stand.
She stays calm and relaxed, offering him encouraging little ‘throat clicks’ and not fretting when he stumbles.

Having experienced dams like this makes things so much easier. New mums have a tendency to panic and fret, but Garland knows the best thing to do is stay calm and collected ☺️

🌑 Introducing Moonstone! 🌑

Moonstone is not new to us, he was born on farm last year. However, he has moved up the ranks, being a step closer to having a place here as a potential stud male.

Every year we are very ruthless on what makes the grade as a breeding male (or female). Alpacas are primarily a fibre producing animal, and we breed for good quality fibre and conformation. If they don’t make the grade, then they live their life as a much loved pet or trekking animal. We have a very focused breeding program.

Initially, Moonstone was down as a pet as we had him down as a blue eyed white. However, on closer inspection we could see his eye is only partially blue, and over 50% brown. He is also covered in beautiful grey spots, and when we looked at his fibre, he is a mix of light grey and white fibres.

So, the next stage for us, provided we are happy with his fleece regrowth, is to colour test.
If he is genetically grey, then he becomes an interesting prospect as a stud male. If he isn’t grey, he will likely slot into our trekking team or become a much loved pet.

Moonstone has already started doing a few walks, and seems to have already developed a little fan club. He is a total darling to handle 💎

For anyone local to us, they will know why we had to go for this naming theme 🐘
