Greenslate Farm A therapeutic, educational and wellbeing hub run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers in the heart of the Billinge and Orrell community.

After a successful bid to Wigan MBC Greenslate Farm is now a Community Farm. We provide many services, such as a Care Farm for people with learning difficulties, educational visits for schools and colleges, mental wellbeing activities in nature, local regenerative food growing, and a hub to support other charities and community organisations. As a not for profit, self funded charity, we rely heavily on the generous fundraisers, service users and volunteers who make it all possible. The success of the scheme will rely on getting as many local people involved as possible. You will be able to take part in many different ways allowing you to fit in at whatever level of commitment suits your current lifestyle. Volunteering opportunities include working on the farm, maintenance, fundraising and assisting with community run workshops, skill swaps and community fun days. The Honesty Stall Shop is back with our seasonable vegetable 🎃 🍎 🧄 🧅 Right now it is pumpkins, apples, red onions, garlic...

We grow more than what you can find on the Stall though, and if you are interested in harvesting some of our produce from the fields please get in touch 💚 Grower Celia is happy to give you a tour and harvest with you 👩‍🌾

Available for harvesting at the moment are various greens and salads, edible flowers, many different herbs like rosemary, mint, parsley, lovage etc. We have potatoes (floury type), beetroot and more 🫜 🥔 🌱 🥬 There are also still beautiful flowers left if you would like to pick a bunch (please ask before you pick) 🌾 🌺 🌼

Our new growing area is coming on nicely now and the learner's are slowly working their way around. 🌿🌼🌻

They've been the moving tarpaulin which has been keeping the weeds down all year so we can start our next phase.

After lots of weeding, the Learner's cleared the area of everything, and dug the new soil.

Lots of chopping and pruning, raking and digging. We've even put one of our restored benches in our old arch area. Still lots to do, but Care Farm are getting there. Well done all! 🌼🌻🌳🙂

Soooo… the wait is finally over! WE’RE OPEN! 🥳

Lucy & I have officially opened the doors to Feels Like Home, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you! ❤

What a journey it’s already been! We’ve spent so much of the summer getting the café and kitchen ready, with lots of hard work, love, a few stressful moments and probably a little too many biscuits!🤣

But honestly, the best part has been YOU ❤️ So many of you have helped us along the way, and it’s reminded us why we love Greenslate Farm so much — the community, the kindness and how everyone comes together to help each other. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you!

A LITTLE TASTE OF HOME…
As some of you know, I’m Austrian, and I’ve always said that I found my home away from home here at Greenslate Farm. That’s where the name Feels Like Home comes from!

We want our café to be exactly that — a place to feel welcome, enjoy good food, have a proper catch-up over a cuppa and feel at home. And, of course, to bring a little bit of Austria with me! 🥰
So what better way to celebrate our new beginnings than with a little Oktoberfest weekend? 🍂🥨

THIS WEEKEND’S SPECIALS
🥣 Leek & Potato Soup
🌭 German Sausage with Fried Onions (vegan option available 🌱)
🌭 Kids’ Hot Dogs
🥞 Kaiserschmarrn — traditional Austrian fluffy pancakes torn into pieces and served with chocolate sauc🍫
🍰 Lucy’s Cake Treats — a little surprise! 🤫❤️

📍 Greenslate Farm, Wigan
🗓️ this Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th of October
⏰ 10am–3pm

Come along, grab something delicious, have a cuppa and celebrate these new beginnings with us! ❤

Ps: 👀 And keep your eyes peeled… our official café menu is coming next week!

Going forward, we’ll be open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–3pm.

With love,
Lucy & Cosi x

A massive enormous huge thank you to everyone involved in the volunteer day today 💚

Between us we weeded, dug out, tidied up, moved stuff, painted, cleaned and more!

People got stuck in inside and out and we enjoyed a beautiful farm vegetable soup and cheeky chocolate brownie together on the veranda for lunch.

Everyone deserves a big rest!

Cafe news coming very soon 🤩

The varieties of pumpkins that we grow are all lovely for eating, not just display. We would suggest you decorate with them first and then cook with them afterwards They should store well for months .
