Greenslate Farm A therapeutic, educational and wellbeing hub run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers in the heart of the Billinge and Orrell community.

After a successful bid to Wigan MBC Greenslate Farm is now a Community Farm. We provide many services, such as a Care Farm for people with learning difficulties, educational visits for schools and colleges, mental wellbeing activities in nature, local regenerative food growing, and a hub to support other charities and community organisations. As a not for profit, self funded charity, we rely heav

ily on the generous fundraisers, service users and volunteers who make it all possible. The success of the scheme will rely on getting as many local people involved as possible. You will be able to take part in many different ways allowing you to fit in at whatever level of commitment suits your current lifestyle. Volunteering opportunities include working on the farm, maintenance, fundraising and assisting with community run workshops, skill swaps and community fun days. Welcome to our, David Attenborough-themed entry for the 'Orrell Scarecrow Trail' - Care Farm style.

As Mr Attenborough has turned 100 years old, and is a bit of a legend, the Care Farm thought we would honour him with our scarecrow scene.

Our learners have been painting, drawing, gluing, stringing, dressing and stuffing, to make our scene.

As we celebrate three learner birthdays in August, a trip to Southport was definitely on the cards! 🎉🎂

And what a day we’ve had! ☀️🌊 We came away with a great haul from the slots - you definitely want the Greenslate team on your side when tackling the 2p machines because they’re a bunch of absolute sharks! 🤣💰

Then it was on to a proper chippy lunch 🍟🐟, a ride on the carousel 🎠 and a wander around the shops.

Lots of laughs, fun and a very well-deserved summer day out for our learners who work so hard 💚

Care Farm have had a busy time cooking and baking (and eating) over the last two weeks.

We made a chilli using our Care Farm-grown tomatoes from our growing area. We picked apples from the trees on the farm to make a delicious apple crumble.

The learners then had a try at baking a banana loaf or two and became experts in the making. This may be a future favourite for baking activities as it tasted so good.

From farm to fork, our learners are turning out home grown dishes with pride and teamwork 🍏 🍅 🍌

Embrace the last embers of the summer sun as it gently fades to the cool, crispness of autumn.

This September I invite you to join me around the fire to rest. I will guide you through practices that allow you to reflect and lean into your compassionate self.

Each Tuesday evening from 7pm-8.30pm, for 8 weeks, beginning 8th Sept, you will witness the days shortening, as the sun retreats a little earlier each day and the colour of the leaves begin to change as they prepare to let go. This is an opportunity for you to find peace in the company of like minded beings while being cocooned by the quiet darkness.
