We started off in 2014 with 8 pedigree Shetland Ewe's and have slowly been growing our flock over the last few years. Along with our Shetlands we keep commercial sheep. This year we have 32 Mule's and 16 Swale Ewe's who went to lamb. We also have Ducks and Chickens on the small holding. Shetland sheep are very hardy and browse for food instead of grazing, this in-turn makes them very good and usef
ul for conservation areas. They also make very good mothers and are easy lambers so they do not need to be brought into the sheds for lambing, they normally produce twins, however as they get older they can produce Triplets. They can also be crossed with commercial sheep and still produce good meat
There are 11 colors and 30 markings of Shetlands, we solely breed the Moorits at this time
We look after the flock along with having our day jobs. We are aiming to continue to grow our flock over the next few years, Whilst doing this we are trying to keep our breed as a pedigree breed and as true to their Shetland ancestors as possible, We do this by sourcing the best Tup as possible, with all the characteristics that you would expect to find in the breed
We work closely with our local vet, So they all have health plans for the year. This ensures that flock are healthy but most of all happy. In the summer months we attend local agricultural shows in the North East, where we show some of our selected flock and meet people that have the breed. This is very helpful as we can expand our knowledge of the breed and learn what areas we can improve on. At the shows we also meet people that do not have knowledge of the breed and we are more than happy to talk with them. We currently sell fleeces once a year that are fantastic for hand spinning and peg looming. The fleece is very soft and well crimped. we use old fashioned methods to clip the sheep, We clip the fleeces by hand in the spring / early summer time. In the future we will be looking to sell their meat once they have reached 18 months which produces fantastic, sweet tasting Mutton. Along with this we will also sell starter flocks for anyone interested in having Shetlands. If you like our page, you can follow the day to day life of our Shetlands and our small holding, Or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to send us a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
