This is Warrior. He’s our pedigree British Longhorn bull, and for the last few months he’s been living a rather peaceful life with the sheep here on our family farm in Thurning, Northamptonshire.

Not because he’s in disgrace, but because his work with the cows was done for the year.

We only put Warrior in with our grass-fed Longhorn herd for a set period so that, all being well, our calves arrive within a fairly tight window next year rather than popping up whenever they fancy.

Once he’d done his bit, he came back out and moved in with the sheep. He doesn’t seem to have minded.

Now comes the moment of truth. The cows are being scanned over the next couple of weeks, so we’ll soon find out how successful Warrior has been.

Fingers crossed he’s earned his keep.

We’ve been waiting a long time to write this post.

The long-term plan has always been for our own British Longhorns to become our retail beef. The only problem… our cows seem to have the habit of producing heifer calves! Wonderful for growing the herd, but it does mean we’ve had to be patient before we had enough steers ready for beef boxes.

Well, the wait is finally over.

After 28 days of dry ageing, our own grass-fed British Longhorn beef boxes are now available.

Every box comes from cattle born and reared here at Longbrook, and this feels like a real milestone for us as a family farm.

If you’d like to reserve one, you’ll find them on our website:

People often ask how I went from being a primary school teacher to spending my days talking about British Longhorn cattle and grass-fed beef.

The answer isn’t a straight line.

It’s teaching, tractors, moving house two weeks before our first baby arrived, taking a chance on new business ventures, and plenty of moments where we wondered if we were doing the right thing.

Longbrook Farm is still small.

We’re still learning every day.

But we’re incredibly proud of what we’re building, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has supported us so far.

If you’ve been here since the beginning, thank you.

And if you’re new here…

Welcome to Longbrook Farm.
