The Village Refill has been named Best Sustainable Small Business at the Oxford Climate Awards 2026!

From our first doorstep refills in an electric van to our new Woodstock shop, our aim has always been to make refill shopping easy, accessible and part of everyday life.

This award means so much to our small team. Thank you to everyone who shops with us, returns their empties, recommends us to a friend or supports us behind the scenes. Every refill has helped us get here.

And with our Woodstock doors now open, we’re excited for what comes next!

🌿 WE’RE NOT LEAVING YARNTON! 🌿
Five years ago, we opened our doors at Yarnton Home & Garden — and today is the last day to refill your own containers with us there.

But The Village Refill is staying at Yarnton — just in a slightly different way. 💚

From tomorrow, you’ll still find:
🌿 Our pre-filled refill range
🌿 Eco swaps for your kitchen, laundry and home
🌿 The option to swap your empties for pre-filled refills — we’ll take your containers away, wash and refill them, ready for next time.

Our food range and full loose refill service are moving to our new Woodstock shop, opening Friday 2nd October.

And we’re really not far away — just 2.9 miles up the road and around 7 minutes by car.

So if Yarnton has been your refill stop for the last five years, you’re not losing us. You can still pick up your refills, return your empties and shop our sustainable home, body, beauty and lifestyle range at Yarnton — while Woodstock becomes home to our full range, food and loose refills.

🎉 IT’S OFFICIAL… WE’RE COMING TO WOODSTOCK! 🎉

The secret is finally out!

Today, after what feels like a VERY long journey of plans, paperwork, solicitors, emails, phone calls… and just a little bit of stress 😅… we finally completed on the lease for our new shop! 🔑💚

📍 13 Wincott Square, Woodstock

And now the fun really begins.

Over the next few weeks, an empty shop is going to become The Village Refill, Woodstock — our new home for refills, sustainable everyday essentials, food, home, body and plenty more.

There is A LOT to do — flooring, shelving, electrics, plumbing, decorating, signs, moving stock… the list currently seems endless! 😂

But after six years of growing The Village Refill — from our little refill van, to Yarnton, and now to our very own shop in Woodstock — today feels like a pretty big moment. 💚

And we genuinely couldn’t have got here without all of you who have refilled, reused, shopped, shared, recommended us and supported us along the way.

So… Woodstock, here we come!

🔑 Lease completed.
🛠️ Fit-out starts NOW.
📅 Opening date to be announced very soon…

And while we’re busy creating the new shop, we’d love to hear from you.

5 years ago today, we opened our shop at Yarnton Home & Garden…

Okay, technically we don’t have any doors. 😂

But this was the day The Village Refill took its next big step.

We’d already spent our first year operating from our mobile refill van, bringing refills directly to homes across Oxfordshire. Then, five years ago today, we expanded into our refill shop at Yarnton — while continuing our local deliveries (which we still do today! 🚐).

And what a five years it’s been.

From weighing out those first refills and figuring things out as we went, to growing our range, building an incredible community, being named Best Small Independent Retailer in the UK 🏆 and making it to the Oxford Climate Awards finals three years in a row — including this year… fingers crossed! 🤞💚

We’ve come a long way.

And so much of it is down to you.

Every refill. Every reusable bottle. Every local product you choose. Every recommendation to a friend. It all adds up — and it all makes a difference. 🌱

So today, we’re celebrating 5 years of refilling at Yarnton — and six years of The Village Refill — and feeling incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey.

But there’s something else…

Five years after taking that big step, we’re getting ready to take another one. 👀

And we can’t wait to share it with you.

Did you know the UK uses an estimated 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups every year? Many contain a plastic lining, making them difficult to recycle.

One simple idea we love is the Mug Library.

Instead of reaching for a disposable cup, cafés, offices and community spaces can keep a shelf of donated mugs for anyone who forgets their reusable cup. Borrow one, wash it, return it, ready for the next person.

It’s a brilliant example of the circular economy in action: giving unwanted mugs a second life and reducing unnecessary waste.

💡 Did you know? Traditional liquid laundry detergents are mostly water and are often sold in single-use plastic bottles. Choosing lower-waste alternatives can help reduce plastic packaging and unnecessary transport.

At The Village Refill, we offer a range of laundry solutions to suit different households:

🧺 Laundry Sheets – Made in the UK, lightweight, compact and easy to store.

🌿 Laundry Powder – Made locally in Oxfordshire by social enterprise SESI and available in Bio and Non-Bio. A great alternative to bottled detergents while supporting a local producer.

💧 Concentrated Laundry Liquid – Also made locally in Oxfordshire by SESI and available in Bio and Non-Bio. Bring your own container to refill, or choose one of our repurposed tubs to keep packaging in use for longer.
