As the vines begin to flower, time for a foliar feed to help the vines thrive.🌸
The flowers don't need to impress bees as the vines are self pollenating. If it is very wet, windy or cold at this time then flower shatter can occur when grape flowers fail to develop into berries, so watching the forecast as usual. 🌦️🙏🍇

The new Bacchus is going down very well indeed 😋🥂. As a wine-buyer earlier in her career Nickie from Hendred Store and Post Office has a very discerning palate. The village shop is stocked with all kinds of fresh goodies too so if you're in East Hendred well worth a visit. 🥐🍰🍪

This shows the damage that can occur to buds and early shoots after frosty nights. ❄️🌙
As an experiment, a camera was set up on this vine at the end of a row where the frost protection system didn't reach. Water is pumped from a pond lower down and the water pressure at the end of this row, high on the slope wasn't quite enough. 💦
This vine bounced back and produced secondary buds but these are much less abundant than the primary buds were.
The rest of the vineyard was protected by the sprinklers thankfully. 🙏🌱
Energy for the water pump is generated via solar panels on the vineyard building roof, so it is a circular sustainable system. 🌞

Just as it's time to take the water pump for the vineyard frost protection system out of the pond, a moorhen makes a nest on it! So we wait for the eggs to hatch and delighted at first sighting of the tiny black chicks. Both parents help feeding in the nest and teaching how to swim etc. 🐦‍⬛🪺🐦‍⬛

The Moorhen (or hendrill as it was known here) featured on the earliest bottles of Hendred wines several decades ago.

Four little fox cubs 😍 As they don't compete for food they happily play alongside deer friends.🦊🦌(Foxes ominvores and deer herbivores)
Born deaf and blind these cubs are only a few weeks old.

Hendred Bacchus is ready and Mrs Mouse can't get her nose out of the glass the aromas are soooo fine. Elderflower, citrus, tropical fruits - simply divine. It has been a long road planting the vines to finally create this wine, but we hope you will agree it has been worth the wait. Those who kindly helped harvest the Bacchus last September, in the video here, have their names inscribed on the back label. The wine will be ready for online sales in the coming days. 🌱🚜🥂😋

(Vineyard is not taking part this year due to family commitments).

A host of golden daffodils are lining the drive to welcome you when you collect your wine if you order via our web shop. Beyond the blooms, the last bit of pruning is underway and the buds on the vines will soon be swelling. 🌾
