Today we planted our sunflowers 🌻🚜

Here’s a short reel showing how we planted this year’s maize maze and sunflower trail using GPS section control technology.

The maize maze was planted 19 days ago and is now up and enjoying the sunshine ☀️🌽

Ime Really looking forward to seeing this year’s sunflowers start growing too, this year we’ve gone for a multicoloured ornamental mix, with the aim of hopefully keeping them flowering right through the summer 👀🌻

Our 2026 maize maze is finally planted. 🌽😎

After some challenging weather conditions over the past week, we’re glad to finally have some seeds in the ground and we’re now looking forward to watching them grow. Fingers crossed for some good growing conditions over the next few months.

A lot of work goes into growing our maze crop before the planter even gets to the field. Once the sheep finished grazing the cover crop we planted after last year’s maize and sunflower harvest, we then spread dung, ploughed, spread fertiliser and carried out cultivations before finally getting the planter into the field.

Here’s a few photos from the past few weeks as we’ve been getting everything ready for this year’s maize maze and sunflower trail. We’re really looking forward to welcoming you all back again this summer.

Spring has arrived in St Merryn

Our oats & mustard cover crops looking well, with the mustard just starting to flower bringing a bit of yellow into the fields.

The sheep are grazing it off, helping us keep the ground in good condition, ready for this summer’s maize maze and sunflower trail 🌽🌻

🌽 Autumn Update from St Merryn Maize Maze and Sunflower Trail 🌻

Somehow, summer and our Maize Maze and Sunflower Trail already feel like a distant memory! 🌽🌻
Just over a month ago, we wrapped up the maize and sunflower harvest.

Since then, we’ve planted an oats and mustard cover crop mix — part of our regenerative approach to farming. These crops help protect the soil, provide good winter grazing for sheep, and will be ploughed in later as green manure to boost soil fertility for next season’s Maize and Sunflower crop. We’ve also planted some winter barley crops, which is looking strong and healthy with good autumn growing conditions. 🌾

A happy flock of sheep are now grazing the car park field and look right at home, enjoying the autumn sunshine yesterday! 🐑☀️

We’ll keep sharing little updates as the farm changes through the seasons — we can’t wait to watch our crops growing and see how they develop over the coming months! 🌾🌽🌻

🌽🌻 That’s a wrap – we’re now closed for the season! 🌻🌽

A huge thank you to everyone who’s visited and supported us in our very first year. We’ve loved welcoming you onto our farm to take on the maize maze and wander the sunflower trail.

Over the past 28 days it’s been wonderful to see so many smiling faces, hear the laughter of everyone getting a little lost in the maze, and receive such kind words. We’ve also loved seeing families relaxing in the picnic area, enjoying pizza and coffee, and having fun with the lawn games – little moments like these have made it all worthwhile.

Now it’s time for us to prepare to harvest the crops 🚜. We hope to be back next year – we’ve learnt a lot during our first season and hopefully can make improvements to create an even bigger and better experience for everyone next time.

Keep an eye on our page for updates… we can’t wait to welcome you back next summer!
