Susan Bakes provide delicious cupcakes, buttercream cakes and cupcake bouquets for all occasions. But lets be honest, any day is a good day for a cupcake!!!

My name is Susan Dunn and I run Susan Bakes from my home kitchen. I am registered with Renfrewshire Council and have all the relevant Food Hygiene training. My boxes of cupcakes are perfect for celebrating a special occasion or as giving as a gift to someone you love. As we reach the end of the year, and tomorrow marks 6 months since I closed my doors, I thought it was time to reflect and give a little update on Susan Bakes.

People often asked me how I managed to do it all , and since stopping cake I have regularly asked my self the exact same question. And the answer is that I was never really doing it all, I was sacrificing my mental and physical health and time spent with my family. And now that I am seeing all three of these things slowly improve in the past 6 months, I realise it is not a position I want to put myself in again.

In the past 6 months my baking has consisted of 14 cupcakes and my son’s birthday cake. And even that was made grudgingly. And I genuinely still feel like I could quite happily never bake a cake again! What I have done instead is have nights off to watch tv, films and go to more gigs. I have managed to take days off where I take some time for myself, and even though I have been working full time just now at the day job, I feel less tired than I did before, my sleep is slowly improving and I’m starting to just feel a bit more me. I have had the calmest December I can ever remember, and for the first time ever have reached this stage of the month not feeling really ill and entirely burnt out. Ut feels like a Christmas miracle. I haven’t yet fully learnt how to sit still and completely rest but I have always struggled with this and I’m looking forward to finding ways to change that in the new year.

So as we enter 2026, it is time to officially call Susan Bakes no longer on a break, but now fully closed. I am so proud of what I achieved with the business over the years and immensely grateful for all the support you have given me over the years. But running a small business in this economic climate is not for me and I am now excited to close the door on that stage of my life and to see what comes next in the coming year for me.

Well the day is finally here and the emotions are so mixed!
I really do not have the words to say thank you for all your support and orders over these 11 years. What started as a wee side hustle during maternity leave grew in ways that I could never imagine. I thought I would only ever bake for close friends and family, but word spread, I did some fairs and all of a sudden my customer base grew and grew. Now people who were once strangers to me are some of my best customers, and I feel I can now count them as friends.

It has been the hugest pleasure to be part of all your celebrations, from the small to the large. I’ve loved knowing some of you on a personal level so I can add extra personal touches to your orders. I have loved when you have trusted me to create something from the vaguest of themes (you know who you are 🤣🤣). I have even loved when you have given me the strangest themes and I have just ran with it (again, you know who you are 🤣). I have been there for exam success, births, beating cancer, countless birthdays, secret weddings (I loved this!) and all the other celebrations in between. My final cake this weekend was for a 12th birthday, and I have pretty much been there every year since her 1st birthday. That really means so much to me that you all keep coming back to me year after year.

The kind words of support and gifts (which were never expected) that I have received over the past few weeks have meant the world to me. It has never ever just been a cake, and I have been really moved to hear how much my creations have meant to your family and been an important part of the celebrations.

Your children have been making me feel all the guilt for needing to take a break (sorry kids), but my body knows it’s time. Finishing on a heat wave weekend was not the most fun, but definitely reminded me why I need this break.

I am looking forward to taking some time for myself, but I know I am going to miss baking and seeing you all.

But who knows, it might not be forever. Keep an eye out for me incase I pop up for special occasions (already thinking Halloween cupcakes 🤣) or get bored with all my free time and come rushing back 🤣🤣.

There will never be the words to fully express my gratitude, but thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A day of mixed emotions for sure (mostly relief today after 27° temps yesterday!).
Thank you.
I don’t have the words yet for a full soppy post (and I don’t know if the words exist to fully express my gratitude) but it will come once I take some time to rest and reflect on what a crazy 11yrs it has been.

Here are some things I currently can’t believe:

1. It’s already the middle of June
2. My daughter finishes primary school next week and
3. IT’S MY FINAL WEEK OF SUSAN BAKES!!!!

This really is now your final chance to get some cupcakes as my final day is Saturday and the doors will be closing at 12pm sharp (no latecomers on my last day pretty please!!)

Incase you missed it (and honestly how could you 🤣🤣), there is only 2 weeks left until Susan Bakes takes a much needed, extended break.

My doors will be closing for the final time this year at 12pm on Saturday 21st June.

But fear not, there is still time to get your final fix!!
There are still spaces left for final day cupcakes and I would honestly love to see as many of you as possible that day to say thank you for all your support over the past 11 years!

I really would love to see as many of you as possible on this day, and thank you personally for your support over all the years. Be warned though, there may be tears 😭😭😭.

Thank you so much for all the orders so far. I’m not planning on putting a cut off on these as I really want to accommodate as many people as possible on my last day and don’t want anyone to miss out.
