Lakeland Valley Wagyu Farm Shop

Lakeland Valley Wagyu Farm Shop We are selling our very own grass fed Wagyu, born and raised here on our farm in the Lake District. Pop in to see us. Unfortunately we do not have a tea room.

We try to have a large variety of cuts at all times.

She's called Mitsy and she has come to live at Rawfoot.

Its been rather exciting getting a dairy cow. Not just any dairy cow. A beautiful Jersey 💕

Today was the 1st time I milked a cow fully and for us to drink not a calf. 28/29 litres of beautiful creamy milk 🥛

Today I've been busy making butter, egg custard and cauliflower cheese to use the milk.

Any other ideas for milky recipes are very welcome. 😆

I hope to be able to sell the milk and butter in the shop in the near future. I just need to see what is needed 1st.

The lambs have been weaned off the ewes. They head back up the mountain in lamb ready to lamb in September. The ewes were in amazing condition.

We are back from one of the best trips away.

Richard and I were invited to the Transhumance event in the Cévennes mountains.

The ancient, seasonal practice of moving livestock.

The farmers move their flocks up to the summer pasture until September when they will return ready for lambing later in September.

We spent a number of days with different farmers and their flocks of sheep. We watched the sun coming up and going back down. These are long walks in hot conditions.

We attended the amazing festival in the town. Which is still to this day dedicated to the sheep and this tradition. Which is within a national park.

We had a questions and answers moment at the festival where we were able to talk about what we found similar and what we found to be very different. It was clear that French farmers also have struggles with continuous government legislation. Not quite as bad as here in the UK but definitely a real struggle to keep agriculture a viable career.

One thing that struck Richard and I was how supportive the local community are. They make a huge effort to only buy local. I say they as in people in the community, cafés and restaurants. And I mean that in as really strong passionate sense. They only eat local meat, local eggs, local cheese, local bread. They don't visit large supermarkets to buy what they can buy locally. Interestingly they truly seem to understand that if they don't buy local then farms close, jobs are lost. Family's move. Life itself would be very different if all the local none farming families solely shopped at the large supermarkets.

We are very greatful to those who support our farm shop. It was really interesting talking to the French farmers about their diversifications. Many grow onions alongside tending their flock of sheep in the region we were in.

It was also clear ALL farms sold produce directly from the farm and to the local stores and local community. There was a LOT of sheep and goats cheese 🧀 😍

On a side note the shop is open. I will be putting the various orders together that came in whilst I was away and getting intouch with those who have messaged when I can. I'm just trying to get around to check all the animals 1st.

Our farm shop will be closed for a few days. Starting from this Tuesday 9th lunch time.

I will post more about this with some amazing photos when I can.

I plan to reopen on Tuesday 16th June.

If anyone would like to stock up before Tuesday please do get intouch.

My view from the bedroom window at the moment are these 20 Wagyu cows & heifers. A number of them are calling to the blue bulls in the field opposite. Not quite like birds chirping but a good country sound none the less.

I've had another great day in the farm shop today. A real mixture of customers. From a regular couple from Harrogate stocking up, to stocking up a pub I supply to a lovely young newly married couple having a mini moon in the Lakes after getting married in penrith yesterday. Congratulations to them enjoy the steaks 🥩 🎉🍾🥂

My latest venture.

The shop is officially going mobile. Having successfully secured Grant funding to help towards the set up costs of the new trailer.

I will still be here at the farm shop most days.

If anyone thinks their village would like me to visit once a month, let me know.

F***y has had her piglets. She made a bed out of mud, grass and thistles 😱🤣 we will add some straw today but I do have a feeling they will be out of the trailer very soon enjoying the grass to eat and sleep in.

I think she has 10 piglets 🐷🐷🐷

Video of our neighbour having a little look at them just now.

F***y is due to have her piglets anyday.

True outdoor reared pork is the best!! Pigs love to eat grass. Many pigs never get the luxury of grass.

The colour of our pork is amazing. The taste is even better.
