Slowing down on Sundays 🌸🌿

This morning has been all about picking, preparing and pressing some of the flowers growing around the FTLOC garden 🫶

I'm not just harvesting fruit, veg and herbs at the moment — the garden is giving plenty of materials too.

Verbena, marigolds, begonias, impatiens, violas, dianthus, calibrachoa, petunia and lavender — all homegrown and now being preserved for what comes next 💜

There are a few different plans for these once they’re ready, but for now they’re tucked into the new flower press we made this week 👀

June is where it really starts kicking off in terms of harvesting! 😍

🥬 Pick lettuce little and often by harvesting the outer leaves, allowing the centre to keep producing. Harvest larger outer leaves first, gently pulling away from the base.

🌿 Harvest herbs such as sage, rosemary, basil, oregano and chives regularly to encourage fresh new growth. Any surplus can be dried or preserved for use throughout the year. (More posts on this soon!)

🍓 Raspberries are best picked when they're fully coloured and come away from the plant with a gentle tug. They let you know when they're ready! 🤩

💜 Harvest lavender once the first few flowers on each stem have opened for the best colour, fragrance and essential oil content. It's perfect for drying into bouquets, sachets or crafts. (Some great ideas & tutorials coming soon 👌)
