Sourced locally from Castor and the surrounding John Clare countryside, raised and harvested exactly as nature intended — natural, ethical and true to our ethos.

Venison is known for its naturally lean structure and deep, refined flavour and offers a clean, high‑protein profile, rich in iron, B‑vitamins, zinc and selenium, with low saturated fat and elevated Omega‑3s — a truly nutrient‑dense meat that cooks beautifully and tastes even better.

We’ve prepared a premium variety of cuts to suit every kind of dinner: sirloin, haunch, diced, mince — perfect for everything from refined plates to hearty midweek meals.

Our first deer of the season is a beautiful Fallow: delicious, tender and full of natural character.

Award-winning 🏆 It still sounds pretty surreal to say!

Our whole pasture-raised chicken has been recognised with a Great Taste Award 2026, and it still hasn't quite sunk in!

For those who don't know, the Great Taste Awards are the world's largest and most trusted food accreditation scheme.
Every product is blind tasted by a panel of expert chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers, meaning the judges have no idea who produced the food they're tasting.

The award is based solely on one thing... taste.

This year, only:
⭐ 28.5% of entries achieved a 1 Star Award
⭐⭐ 10.6% achieved 2 Stars
⭐⭐⭐ Just 2% achieved the coveted 3 Stars

⭐️We did it!⭐️

Castors Pastures are officially Great Taste 1⭐️ winners!

Judges praised our pasture‑raised whole chicken, celebrating it's “Delicious wafts, and golden skin,”
They highlighted “It's soft and juicy flesh" and the bird’s “appearance as naturally matured” adding "the flavour is clean and natural tasting, with this chickens good quality lifestyle coming through on the palate”.

For a small farm like ours, this recognition is a reminder that slow, honest farming matters. Every early morning, every pasture rotation, every choice to raise birds properly - it all shows.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported us - we wouldn’t be here without the people who choose better chicken and champion small producers. Your support keeps us doing what we believe in 🌿🐔⭐

Volunteer(s) wanted this summer! 🙋‍♀️🙋

We have a new little family member arriving at Castors Pastures very soon - so we're looking for a volunteer (or two!) to help look after our hens and broiler chickens through August and September (and if you really love it, you're very welcome to stay on for longer!).

It's a genuinely lovely way to spend part of your week: outdoors, hands-on, and a real window into pasture-raised, regenerative farming.

No experience needed; we'll show you everything.

The key bits:
🌱 Two sites in Castor - Thorolds Paddock and our field behind the church
🕗 A day shift and an evening shift - take whichever suits you, or both!
⏳️ Training can start immediately, or by the latest around 7th Aug
📅 August-September cover, with the option to carry on
🎓 Full training given
✅ You'll need to be 16 or over and the evening shift is for over-18s only

If you've ever wanted to learn where good food really comes from, or simply fancy spending more time around a happy flock, we'd love to hear from you.

We’re happy to confirm the dates for our next pop‑up farm shop: Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August.

With the current heatwave 🥵 🔥, we made the decision not to transport cattle to the abattoir the next few weeks. Their welfare is always our highest priority. 🐮 Our animals live an exceptional life here on the farm, and they deserve the same respect and care 💖 at the end of life too. This has meant deferring the next pop up dates til end of August.

Thankyou for your understanding, we look forward to welcoming you back in August. 🙂
