Me, the van and a village green. That’s still my happy place after all these years.
This old set up has seen a lot. School fairs, village shows, weddings where I remember the bride and groom as kids at the hatch. Places like Fittleworth, Washington and Bury start to feel smaller when you recognise half the faces that wander over for a chat.
I never take it for granted that you still give me a wave, send your kids over with a few coins, or stop by just to say how life’s going. That’s what keeps it feeling more like a community than a job.
So if you see the van out and about and spot my mug in the window, don’t be shy. Give me a nod, come and say hello and tell me what you’ve been up to.
